1.1.3 is what several claim to have. Personally I believe that it's a beta version and that it will be named 1.2.0 when it is actually released to the public.

firmware updates are overrated! Especially when they offer very little functionality to the end user!

I agree that previous firmware updates didn't include a lot of the features that many of us want. However, the last firmware update greatly improved my Bluetooth Car Kit connectivity.

good to hear but the next firmware update has no BT updates.
what was the improvement? curious..cause mine kind of blows..
What ever the update is there will be bug fixes with it, that we will not know until it comes out.

My old Nokia Car kit didn't connect every time and would sometimes just disconnect on it's own. Since the last update it's been solid. Instant connect everytime etc..
Keep your fingers crossed. Apple hasn't said what will or won't be in the next update. I'm hoping for A2DP

I have to say that mine did also! I used to have problems where my car kit (Acura MDX) would sometimes lose the connection when initiating a phone call from the car kit. Ever since the last update, I have not had any issues when initiating or while in a phone call. I love this new FW!

That's your opinion.
Some of us, me included, enjoy the iTunes Wi-Fi store, brought by 1.1.1. I also enjoy the double-clicking home button feature, brought by 1.1.1. I find the EDGE Roaming button extremely useful when traveling. What brought this? An update.
If the rumored features of 1.1.3 are true, people will be very excited for it. More than members here that are currently jailbroken say that they may go back to stock for it.

OK, some of you may have figured this out already, but Walt Mossberg had a recent article that outlines the madness behind Apple's firmware numbering, and it actually makes some sense.
The second and third digits are straight forward, but the first is a little grey.
Supposedly, the first digit is for major software rewrites. So we are still on v1 right now. They say that the version 2 will likely be after the SDK is released, or when the 3G iphone comes out. Not 100% sure yet on that one.
The second digit however is definitely for when new applications are added to the iphone. So far only one new app has been added since launch, the Itunes WiFi music store icon. So that is when we went from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1.
The last digit is for when there is a firmware update, but no new apps added. That's why this upcoming release will be 1.1.3, and not 1.2.1. Although there are some great updates coming to Maps, SMS, and the home screen, they are all enhancements to existing applications. There are no new applications being added so far. So the second digit stays the same.
There is supposed to be a update coming very soon with some new widgets and MMS. Since those would likely be considered new applications, that would then take us to 1.2.1, unless of course that same time frame coincides with the SDK update, in which case we may skip 1.2.1 altogether and jump to 2.0.1.
Being that the SDK is coming in February, and 1.1.3 won't be out until MacWorld next week (supposedly), that is a likely scenario. It is not likely Apple would release another update after MacWord but before the February SDK.
However, Walt also said that the first digit could be reserved for the next iphone with 3G, etc. It that's the case, the SDK update would be 1.2.1 and not 2.0.1.
Anyway, the second and 3rd digits are straight forward. We'll have to wait and see on the first one.
Hope that helps,
Shane

The MacWorld is one week from today, Stevo will be doing his dog & pony show rolling out new things and upgrades, so we all anticipate 1.1.3
