OUCH... anyone see this on the AT&T site? Is this really the only way to use WiFi on the iPhone?

While I havent seen it yet (server still down for me, they are likely doing each server separately), that usually means if you want to use AT&Ts wifi

AT&T site is still under maintenance.
No need to be making stuff up.

I have read a few sites saying it was back up. And mine was up when others said it was down, I think they are doing each web cluster separately, meaning we may each see different things.

i saw that too. it was $79 PDA data unlimited or $99 PDA data unlimited w/ WiFi. i was scared!! there is no way i can afford that. it would potentially keep me from buying the iPhone. as much as i never though anything could keep me from the iphone, if it was 100bucks just for data i would have to decline.

nope.. no joking. I just got in to the AT&T site for a second. It was the bottom data plan. It was the only one that offered WiFi.
I see they've shut it off again, but check out http://www.looprumors.com/
That takes you to the AT&T site

Don't get all uptight, everyone. It's just ATT's wifi plan. That doesn't preclude you using your own wifi in your own house, or at the local Starbucks, or at work, or at school, or anywhere except where you'd need to connect to ATT's wifi network.
I think those wifi plans usually include several other companies' wifi networks. So, if you travel a lot by air and need to work in airports, that buys you access to several networks instead of having to purchase daily access or monthly plans to several different wifi networks.
Here's a quick screen shot:

true, but the unlimited data connect w/o wifi is still $79.99 WAY too much IMNHO.

when they refer to "wi-fi" it is ATT-provided wifi, meaning you need to subscribe to it to gain access. It is different than public wifi spots.

I believe i've seen those plans there before i dont think they are new...so maybe those are not even the plans for the iphone.....we can only wait and see.

I highly doubt the plans will be that price. Those data plans including the wi/fi have been on there for the past two weeks.
Since the iphone will be required to have both they will make it less. Especially when verizons unlimited data plan is around $50.

Smartphone Connect Plans
With SmartPhone Connect, you can browse the internet from your wireless Smartphone handset. And now, Xpress Mail is included with SmartPhone Connect Unlimited at no extra charge.
SmartPhone Connect 5MB $9.99
SmartPhone Connect Unlimited w/Xpress Mail $19.99

Well maybe at&t will offer hotspots like TMOBILE does with starbucks?
These are not the iPhone plans. The $99 WiFi plan is to use AT&T WiFi, not your own. Relax.

i doubt that's the same thing as iphone's wifi.
however, if it is true then i'm not getting it and i'm selling all my stock in apple. a $99 required data plan is the nail in the coffin for at&t and apple.
let me just reiterate, though, that i still don't think this is the plan for the iphone

Also, if it has 'Connect' in the name, that means you 'can' also tether to a laptop and use it as a model. There are 2 things with that. First off, we don't know if the iPhone will support that, and second, usually you can do it with that plan, it just take a bit more configuring, and you may get disconnected if you use too much data.

Yeah, all this is no different than it was last week. These are their standard data plans.

No. That's for tethering other wireless devices to your at&t account. With that other laptops could access the internet on your signal.

Smartphone Connect Plans
SmartPhone Connect 5MB $9.99
SmartPhone Connect Unlimited w/Xpress Mail $19.99
Yeh, I'd expect both of those plans to be available for the iPhone... I thought about the 5 MB plan but I might start with the unlimited plan the first month and see how much data I actually transfer when not on wi-fi.

5MB is about 10 webpages. Trust me. I regularly burn through more than a GB a month even on a phone with wifi.

Yeah, esp. since it's using the 'full' web, it's a lot more traffic then you would get if you were browsing the mobile web.

Though without flash or java, you'll probably use a lot less. My phone has both so i do use more data to access those things.

I don't plan to surf much when not on Wi-Fi so we'll see...
I notice a difference between my home's RoadRunner vs my employer's slower T1 so I fully expect EDGE to royally suck, being closer to dialup.

DUDE SICK AVATAR!
PS For all of you wondering about data On your Cingular/at&t handsets type the command ( *3282# ) And it will send you A data reminder telling you how many Text messeges and data you have left. I put it into my contacts so I just go to the listing TEXTS LEFT and press send like your making a call. This will bring up a USSD REQUESTING screen follwing with a free text messege from ATT.
