Hi, I would like to get past the activation screen on the iphone. How do I go about doing this? It is most likely a 1.1.2 iphone since i bought it 2 weeks ago. Thank you in advance...

I could be wrong, but I dont think there is a way to by-pass activation. I believe that its just a paper weight until you get it activated.

you'll need to follow the tutorial for jailbreaking an OTB 1.1.2

Its fairly simple, will take you about 30 mind. The preferred method is always the official method of course.

The OP didnt mention anything about wanting to jailbreak. I just thought he wanted to somehow use the other features of the phone minus the phone.

Guys without jailbreaking I don't think theres another method to activate the iphone unless you go through itunes which =AT&T activation of course

I don't see how anyone thinks they could get past the AT&T activation screen without hacking anyway, you are doing something not endorsed by Apple so you must hack. That's the only way.

Are you kidding me? I've jailbroken over 30 iPhones with that process, none of them previously activated with AT&T. And the link you gave looks like it says to do the exact same thing. Download 1.1.1 firmware file, hold home+sleep for 10 seconds in iTunes, hold shift and hit restore, find the 1.1.1 file, restore to 1.1.1, do the *#307# trick to go to jailbreakme.com, download Oktoprep from Installer, upgrade to 1.1.2, use the dev team's 1.1.2 jailbreak program, and you're done. What is so different about your link?

Yes I also saw that thread and it did say you have to have an activated phone first. So how do you even get into it to downgrade to 1.1 if it is not activated?

Yes- connect to iTunes and restore it.

I don't know the history of your phone or your setup, but I'm sure its there or thereabouts.

Hardly got started and this link doesn't work.

Second Download Ibrickr if you are using Windows or 1.1.2 jailbreak for Mac

For one thing, Ibrickr site has been down for a couple of days in order to get the v9, but I saw another site I gave to someone but iut was v8...so problemoo

. it'll only be there for the resurrction from recovery . You can use the 1.1.2 in tool in stead

I will one day. Trouble is it all keeps changing. Packages get updated and I swear apple changes stuff for the fun of it.

made it to the 1015 error and now it the above step tells me to open ibrickr. what can I do now since I don't have ibrickr?

You can use the jailbreak software from the Dev Team. Just unzip and double click on windows.bat. (Make sure you have the latest version of java installed on your PC). Then choose "boot from recovery".

Got it working but the first time I tried to update to 1.1.2 firmware it de-activated my phone and I had to start all over again. This time I just left it with the 1.1.1 firmware. Any suggestions how to update without messing up what i've already done?

"STEP4 - UPGRADE TO FIRMWARE 1.1.2 & ACTIVATE AND JAILBREAK

-Click on INSTALLER on your iphone (Blue Icon usually the last one)
If you are asked to update your Installer please do it (if you updated don't forget after the update installs press the HOME button, it will take you back to the SLIDE TO UNLOCK page )

-Now open your ITUNES on your PC or MAC and press on the name of your IPHONE in the left colum, this will take you to the page with UPDATE or RESTORE buttons

On your IPHONE clikc on INSTALLER and press on TWEAKS 1.1.1 and press and install Oktoprep, once it is installed it will give you a message on your iphone saying "YOUR PHONE IS NOW READY TO BE UPGRADED TO 1.1.2 ........" press OK and then press the HOME button and it will take you back to the SLIDE TO UNLOCK.

-Your ITUNES is still open on your PC or MAC now press UPDATE and ITUNES will update your iphone to FIRMWARE 1.1.2 and this time you will not get an error message like the last time when u downgraded to 1.1.1
When the Update is finished you will get a picture of a plug that will appear on your iPhone and you will have the page SLIDE TO UNLCOK but written in French

-Close ITUNES on your PC or MAC

-download and unzip 1.1.2 Jailbreak from here http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip)

-In the Folder you will find the file jailbreak.jar Open it and press on JAILBREAK!
(IF JAILBREAK.JAR DOESNT OPEN UPDATE YOUR JAVA HERE (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)

This will take some time and at the end you will get a message that says "Your Phone will reboot a couple of times ...... "

Let your phone REBOOT a couple of time... And you will get back to the SLIDE to UNLOCK page

YOU ARE DONE !!!!
YOU HAVE AN ACTIVATED AND JAILBROKEN 1.1.2 IPHONE
NOW ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GET A TURBOSIM AND START USING YOUR PHONE"

I do not see TWEEKS 1.1.1 on my installer menu? The phone works fine though. Do I need to do this last step?

Ok - is it Installer you don't see on the desktop, or OktoPrep you don't see in Installer? Click on all packages - then install OktoPrep

I think it's Tweaks 1.1.2 isn't it?

Yes - you upgraded to 1.1.2 - after installing oktoprep.

Then quit itunes and run the 1.1.2 jailbreak (windows.bat)

put a tick in "install ssh" and hit Jailbreak!

(the iphone needs to be in the dock)

make sure itunes is not running, and that the phone is at the 'slide for emergency screen" maybe take it out of the dock and plug it straight into the computer by cable.

Quit itunes - crash it if necessary - just get rid of it and the itunes helper application as well (alt-ctrl-delete)

the itunes helper application launches itunes when it sees the phone - you don't want it to do that, so killing it will do the trick

try unplugging the usb - and sticking it in a different port. Also you're not killing the itunes helper application or itunes would stop launching.

If it still doesn't find it - restart your computer. It found the phone before so there's no major problem.

I've tried this on both my laptop and desktop and keep getting the same message when trying to install jailbreak. device not found. any suggestions now? or should I start the whole bypassing activation thing over?

no, you're at 1.1.2 now. jailbreakme.com only works at 1.1.1, besides - this the the right thing to do. "Device not found" - is that a message from the jailbreak application?

Find and destroy the itunes helper application!

and you're double clicking on windows.bat ? You say jailbreak tab, I'm just trying to guess what's happening because this shouldn't be!

OK, Got it!!!!!!!! When I pull up phone info on itunes it says software version 1.1.2

One more ?. In the instructions it says that the installer icon will dissappear on my screen. But it is still there and also I have an icon for SSH?

Yes - You really want installer there - it's very handy. I can talk you through removing the SSH icon if you would like.

No problem - You can remove installer as well in the same way. I do it a dirty way.

yes viper - you need to connect the phone to wifi (which is easier this time!). Find the phone's IP address from settings,wifi and connect to that ip address with putty

username: root
password: alpine

no problem - the installer will install a folder called puttyportable in there is the putty application. run that. That will ask you the IP address of the server to connect to - this is the address you got from your phone.

When you're connected you will see a black terminal screen.

When you're connected, type the following line EXACTLY like this:

mv /Applications/SSH.app /Applications/SSH.bak

and press return

Your phone went to sleep. Keep it in the dock, or auto-lock needs setting to never.

I typed what you said in the black box and hit return. It gives me a line with the same thing I typed but also says password. when I try and type the password it doesn't let me type anything. I can hit return again and it says acess denied and asks for the password again but I still can't type anything.
