How do I unlock an original iPhone??

I've had my iPhone since day 1 of release, it's completely untouched by any sort of software modifications other than Apple's firmware updates. I will be going out of the country for a month tomorrow and I would like to know how to unlock (more like which guide to use) my iPhone so it's sim free and still have firmware 1.1.2 if that's still possible.
