View Full Version : Going case-less. Do you dare?
Do you dare go caseless with your new iPhone? How concerned are you about scratches, etc.?
I'd love to go caseless just because the phone is so damn gorgeous, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to do it. What say you?
Additionally, who's got the thinnest, most unobtrusive cases out there so far?

I got a nice sexy leather case from zuluworks.com I got the daytripper. It has an open top and an opening in the front/bottom so you can pop the phone up quickly and get it.

Case-less??? No way! :laugh2:
I've been using a Rivet Trek (http://www.rivetnow.com/index.php?file=product&iproduct_id=1) with my old cellphone for a couple of years now and I love it. No case, just a screen protector.
The Rivet pin attaches to the back of the phone with a super strong adhesive. The nice thing about this approach is it can freely move around in the Trek clasp. As opposed to spinning upside down and falling out of a traditional holster.
They used to carry them at Radio Shack, but their online store doesn't show these anymore.

You know what I've always thought would be the absolute best way to carry an iPhone? It would be the best to have jeans that had an integrated pocket on the side just for your iPhone. No case. Nothing else near your iPhone. Just your own custom iPhone pants.

Good idea. You'd think Levi's would that that for Steve Jobs already.

I havea razor phone and my pants that i wear have the little pocket inside a pocket thing except its not down in the pocket its mostly visible. Well anywho my phone fits perfectly inside to wear only the very top shows so i can grab it out. It would be nice if the iphone was the same width but its not.

Depending on the iPhone itself I may decide to go caseless. A little wear and tear does nothing except add to the character of the phone. As long as nothing is done that effects the performance, caseless may be the way to go. It will slide nicely in and out of your pocket and be very confortable.
Then again a little protection couldn't hurt either.
I did order an invisible shield... not sure if I'll use it or not.
I'm highly doubtful that placing a layer of polycarb over the top of the touchscreen will allow it to work properly. Don't all of the those shield products have a cutout for the spinners on the iPods... why aren't those covered up?

I have a SPECK clear acrylic hard plastic case on my macbook pro. I have a similar case for my 30g ipod. I would like to find the same type of case for my precious iphone.:laugh2:

It appears there will be something similar available at launch at the AT&T stores. This is what I will be looking for. But I really want to know if you can put the crystal film over the whole thing or not?
I'm planning to get an Apple OEM case, if available at launch. Another great option are the sunglass bags from Oakley. Very soft material, should be large enough for a snug fit and can be used to clean the smudges.

After the beating the HTC8525 went thru (lots of scratches on the case) my iPhone will have some sort of protection. What I want is some sort of Rubber Band type case that will protect the corners when dropped, but doesn't cover the phone.

That's pretty much the kind of thing I'll be looking for too. I'm not much on hard plastic or leather cases.

I won't get a case. One of the reasons the iPhone is so amazing is because of it's sleek and sexy body. I don't want to fatten it up any. My right pocket is designated my cell phone pocket so that is where the iPhone shall be.

Caseless. I want it to be able to slip right into my front pocket. I figure if it fits in Steve Jobs's front pocket it'll fit into mine.
And IMHO, those belt clips cases remind me of those TI calculator pouches the nerds used to wear in college.

I think that the back, sides and the top and bottom will be covered leaving only the touch screen open.

I am going to make a custom pocket in a new pair of pants made out of glass cleaning cloth. I did that for my nano, and it turned out to be awesome. I gonna go pick up some pants now. Maybe a shirt too.

I also like this idea because it would probably make it less likely that I'd drop it...make it kinda grippy.

Yeah, I will probably get a case because I would hate to see the thing get scratched, but I dont know exactly what type I want. I might get a leather case with no front and then a clear screen protector.

A third pocket of sorts? Or did you convert one of the pockets on your pants to being lined w/ a glass cleaning cloth?
Oh, and the Oakley cleaning bag is a really nice idea...that might be the solution I go with to start until these cases start rolling out where I can shop and compare, plus read reviews.

Most of the ones i've seen so far are atrocious. lol
Kinda hard to design a case for a device this size, that is functional yet stylish..

Ok, so I ordered the Lambskin iPhone case from Zuluworks, and I love it. It is absolutely awesome. However, I can picture myself taking the iPhone out of that case and dropping it during the transition from the case to securely resting in the palm of my hand...I have done this multiple times with my RAZR, which I will admit I pretty much loathe...
I am thinking of buying the Belkin acrylic case, and then putting that inside of the Zuluworks case. Then placing that inside of a ballistic nylon bulletproof stachel...LOL, but seriously, I think I will put the Belkin case inside the Zuluworks case. The Belkin case is good looking and doesn't hide the looks of the iPhone, and the Zuluworks case is a great looking case to wear on your belt...

That's exactly my point. When girls see a guy wearing a phone on his belt, they think NERD ALERT!

lol. Look at me! I'm a nerd! Nevertheless, I see that you got my hint of sarcasm? It is true that the phone belt is not the most attractive thing on the planet. But I don't think that I am opposed to the whole case idea. It's an expensive and highly coveted commodity (i know it will be around my area..).. There's no shame in trying to take care of it.

We actually tested this. The elastic should be tight enough to hold the phone inside the case even if it's upside down. It's slightly tighter than most, which is also why we have the finger slot at the bottom. So you can pop the phone up and out of the case.

It was so cool in the 90's showing off your un-stylish phone, pda, and pager all neatly clipped in a row on the belt. Now we get all of that and more hidden in our pocket. :laugh2:

I have been lurking on this site since shortly after it started, and I've been fiending after an iPhone since before it was announced, even more after the keynote in January. I have been a long time Treo user (600, 650, 680) and a rabid Apple evangelist since I had my first 140 laptop after using the family Performa.
I have never used a case for any of my Treos, but for a long time I have sworn by egrips for the many (too many my wife would say) gadgets that I have had to have. You can check them out at www.egrips.com . No I don't work for them, or have any affiliation with them other than being a happy customer. Their product has kept my many tech goodies in my hand without fail, except for my Treo 680 which was snatched out of my hand and thrown on the road when I was assaulted by a plainly unhinged female Federal Postal Police Officer (Long Story!). But my 680 survived very well, and the minimal internal damage was covered as part of a settlement from the USPS.
After hearing the keynote about the iPhone I contacted egrips and they replied saying they would have a specific product for the iPhone about a week after it was released. I guess I'll have to use one of the generic options they offer until then.

This case would be perfect if....it swiveled. These guys always make quality stuff. I emailed them about it and with no luck. Maybe if all of us liked this and emailed th:2cool:em they would do something about it. Plus this is perfect for showing off the beauty and still having some sort of protection...and remember protection is a good thing!!!!

I've never had a case for any of my phones, Naked Razr, Naked blackjack, and I will have a naked iphone too. I think all the cases look gaudy and nerdy. Unless I happen across something that really catches my eye and looks good its going to be open air flowing over my iphone at all times.
