Apple may give you a hard time seeing how you voided the warranty by opening it.
Good luck.

Even reeking of iGlade? I mean, that *might* give it away...

Yeah your right, I re-read and saw that he took the cover off. But he can still have them repair it. Others have taken theirs in that have fallen into water and Apple charges $250 for that.
You can get a new antenna cover here:

Sheesh, at that rate I think I'd just pony up the extra $150 for a fresh start with non-hydrated components and keep the waterlogged one in a frame over the desk to remind me not to do that ever ever ever again. :D

That is a good find, I bookmarked it. Looks like you could build a complete phone from there.

I'm on my 2nd iphone. First fell into the toilet and I had to get the $250 replacement.
Just a point of information, if your phone gets wet the geniuses look into the headphone jack and if its red at the bottom that's the marker to show its taken on water. And if its taken water, its no longer covered under the warranty.

So do you suggest to try and make sure there is no water in the jack hole?

Look in the jack hole with a flashlight, if it's silver your golden. If it's red your out $250.
By the way, if you get the $250 replacement, they keep your old phone.
Sync before you go, all your info will not be able to be transfered to the new phone.

Take a vacumn cleaner to it, but put a rag over the vacumn so that it does not suck up loose parts.

hm i might try that but idk if it will get the smell out...
Speaking of the moisture indicator thing... has anyone heard of anyone using a drop of bleach to turn a red moisture indicator back to white? I heard about this working on RAZRs years back.

Is the headphone jack receptacle (sounds better than jackhole) the most likely candidate for water penetration? If so how about some kind of cover for it when its not in use?

Most electronic components are impervious to alcohol. When computers first came out my Father (back in the 70's) worked on the giant systems that did what a calculator does now and whenever one had something spilled on it they would clean the components with alcohol. The alcohol will dry completely leaving no liquid to cause a short. If you really want to try to save the phone you could consider opening the case, clean all removable case parts in a bowl of alcohol, then remove the battery so there is no current at all in the device and then with a totally lint free cloth, such as the microfiber cloth that came with the phone, gently wipe the circuitboard and electrical parts with a slightly dampened piece of the cloth (dampened with Alcohol, not water). NOT WET, just moist. Let it dry opened for 24-48 hours and then reassemble it. I have done this with stereos and other electronics with no problems at all. Just be careful how much pressure you use to wipe everything as most of the components are very delicate.
