Will I be charged for every message that I send and receive, or just for the ones that I send?

On my old phone, you could delete messages before opening them, so you wouldn't be charged. But on the iPhone you don't really get that option.

The SMS deducts from messages sent and received so I don't think there is a way of getting around it.

Correct but they shouldnt charge you unless you reply to the message. That would be fair.

Yea, you get charged the minute the text message gets sent from the person's phone who sent it and it hits the network. Before I had a text messaging plan I use to get mad when people would send me text messages because it costed money. It's a shame you couldn't stop it.
