Some info on Firmware 1.1.2:
Many of you who have 1.1.1 probably think that it is perfect and updating to 1.1.2 is unnecessary. I used to think the same way. Let me just dispel all rumors and say that 1.1.2 is a lot better than you think. Here are the three main reasons why:
It has improved stability. Much less crashing.
It has increased CPU speed. When programs open and close, the window no longer "skips" but smoothly opens and closes like it should.
It has improved battery management. This means your battery life will be improved. For these reasons, I decided to write this guide.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
This will not work if you the if 4th and 5th digit of your serial number is 46 or higher. In other words, if you bought your iPhone and it already came with firmware 1.1.2, then this guide will not work! Out-of-box 1.1.2 iPhones are currently (as of 11-29-07) impossible to unlock, so don't try.
Before you do this, go to Settings > General > About. Make sure your firmware version is 1.1.1 and your Modem Firmware is 04.01.13_G.
On the other hand, if everything on your iPhone checks out, don't be nervous. This unlock will be very easy for you. I just have to weed out the newbies who don't know how to focus by using lots of red bold print :)NEEDED:
1.1.1 iPhone, possibly previously unlocked with anySIM 1.1.
The iPhone Dev Team's 1.1.2 Jailbreak Program HERE (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip).
WiFi/EDGE access on the phone.
iTunes (the computer version)
STEPS:
1. Go to Installer (make sure it's the newest version), then push the Install tab on the bottom, go to All Packages and install Oktoprep. I must stress the importance of this step. If you forget to do this step and update to 1.1.2 first, then you are going to have to downgrade back down to 1.1.1 again, which is a headache.
2. Open iTunes on the computer, sync your phone, then update your phone to version 1.1.2. If a newer version is out by the time you read this guide, do not use that version. Only 1.1.2.
3. iTunes will now possibly encounter an error, your phone will be unactivated and will inform you that you have an incorrect SIM. Do not panic. Go here (http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip) and download the 1.1.2 jailbreak program by the iPhone Dev Team and run it. It will take a little bit, just let it completely finish. When it's done, you will have the friendly "Slide to Unlock" screen on your iPhone and you will be taken to the homescreen with the Installer app waiting for you.
4. Now push Installer, go to Install on the bottom, then All Packages, then find and install anySIM 1.2.1u. Watch out my friends, because there will be several anySIM versions to choose from, many being version 1.1, which will not work. Just check the version before you install it, and make sure it says 1.2.1u. (If for some reason anySIM 1.2.1u isn't on the list, then go to Sources on the bottom, then Edit, then Add, then type it rep.frenchiphone.com, then Refresh, then Install, then All Packages, then anySIM 1.2.1u.)
5. Once it's installed, go into Settings and turn Airplane Mode ON. Don't forget this step! If you do, anySIM 1.2.1u will fail and who knows what will happen then. Also, go to General > Auto-lock and make sure it's set to Never.
6. Now fearlessly run anySIM 1.2.1u. Once it's done, turn Airplane Mode OFF, and watch the signal bars appear! Feel free to uninstall anySIM as it is no longer needed.
BONUS STEP FOR THOSE OUTSIDE U.S.: Your phone won't work until you go into Installer, then All Packages, install iWorld, and pick your country.
Did something go wrong? Go here (http://iphone.unlock.no/#how-to-downgrade-1.1.2) and follow instructions to get back to version 1.1.1.
Please give me feedback on this guide so I can improve it if needs be.

What if you virginize your iPhone back to 1.0.2 (including modem firmware) and then restore up to 1.1.1. Won't the firmware versions be exactly the same as an OTB 1.1.1 iPhone? i.e. firmware of : 04.01.13_G.

Will this work if the phone originally came with 1.0.2 was unlocked with anysim102 THEN upgraded to 1.1.1 and unlocked with anysim 1.1?? Or does it have to be a phone that came from the box with 1.1.1??

It works on any phone as long as it did not come 1.1.2 OTB. But you must be on 1.1.1 when you do this guide, so if you're on 1.0.2 then update to 1.1.1 first.

Like I say in the OP, 1.1.2 is a lot smoother and faster. Up to you.... And yes there is always a risk in doing anything in life but as long as your follow the instructions you'll be fine.

Back to 1.0.2 from 1.1.2 out of box? If so, then no. The bootloader is a new version in 1.1.2 OOB which prevents unlocking until the dev team finds an exploit.

Dude, we just tried it and it worked  sweet.
Guy at work just bought a new iPhone and it was 1.1.2. We bought the phone right down to 1.0.2 (software, firmware, modem baseband etc). we had to use iEraser/Putty and all that stuff to do this. Modem firmware was being reported as: 03.14.08_G. Phone worked fine when jail broken (AT&T SIM).
Then we used iTunes and bought the phone up to 1.1.1. The modem firmware was now reporting as: 04.01.13_G. We jail broke the phone and it worked fine with an AT&T SIM.
We then ran your instructions and we now have a fully unlocked 1.1.2 iPhone. Modem firmware is being reported as: 04.02.13_G.
We have a Virgin UK SIM in the iPhone and it is currently connected to T-Mobile.
You da man!!

Dang it, ignore me man. Turns out he didn't get it to work and had rolled back to 1.1.1 and anySIM'd it (he wants to use it in the UK). That is why the Virgin SIM was running. I thought it was running under 1.1.2, but it was running under 1.1.1.
Sorry man.

There is a method to return a new - out of the box 1.1.2 back to the 1.1.1 baseband firmware. Please check the other 1.1.2 jailbreak posts. There's like 5 of them now.

I actually have a link to the method in the OP (http://iphone.unlock.no/#how-to-downgrade-1.1.2) but that still won't unlock it because the bootloader is new for OOB 1.1.2 phones. Downgrading just the firmware and baseband won't help it. Simply stated, an OOB 1.1.2 is unlockable at the moment.

Now I have a unlocked iphone on the 1.1.2.:laugh2:
Just one question? When I ran the Dev's Team Jailbreaker, I checked the box to also install SSH. Which it did 'cause now I have an icon on the iphone. But do I really need it? Now I just want to uninstall it! Installer doesn't give me an option like it did w/anysim!!! :gasp:
How the hell do I get rid of it from my phone? ? ? :frown:

I installed it too and wanted it gone. Just use WinSCP, navigate to the Applications folder and delete SSH or whatever the program is called. I recommend installing "OpenSSH" from Installer to be able to use WinSCP and the like, because it just works and you don't need an icon on your springboard for it.

Most apps DO work, but some might not. I install lots of third party apps and they have all been compatible so far. If they're not, it will usually say in the description "Only compatible with 1.0.2" or whatever. And yes, if you update you will lose your third party apps and mods, but you WON'T lose your notes, contacts, photos, or anything else native to an unmodded iPhone (iTunes backs these up). Also, any eBooks or ROMs you have installed will stay on there (unless you do a restore).

I'm sorry, I'm a complete retard when it comes to Macs. I've never been able to afford one. Just google SSH for Mac or something. Or just just iNdependence (google it). It's an iPhone program for the Mac that offers file system navigation.
seems to be working for me. took an hour though, not 15 minutes. i did get an error after updating to 1.1.2 to connect my iphone to itunes. i tried running jailbreak like instructions said, but no luck. i ran jailbreak and it couldn't see my phone, it suggested rebooting PC, i did and still no seeing the iphone. what i did was go into the emergency dial pad and run jailbreak program from there, THEN it worked...hope that helps someone...

One question for those unlocked and on T-Mobile(USA); when I power down the phone (whether turning the phone off, or putting it in airplane mode) and then turn the phone back on, I get the red dot/voicemail indictor but I do not have any voicemails...it doesn't show a number in the red dot, just a solid red dot. But it goes away when I go into voicemail, wait a few seconds and hang up...any thoughts?

Just so you know...I had version 1.1.1 unlocked I went and donwloaded Oktoprep, then went to Itunes and updated, but when it was finally done updating instead of an error, I got Iphone is activated, and was no longer unlocked and all my apps were gone. I now have version 1.1.2 and is not unlocked.
Can I still run 1.1.2 jailbreak?
yes, provided you are not SIM unlocked (which sounds like you aren't)
Just open the 1.1.2-Jailbreak.zip, Extract the files and then launch the appropriate installer ( windows or mac). Follow the instructions and you will be fine.

The only problem I'm having now is I can't send any Text messages because each one is getting a +011 attached.
I tried running iWorld but Canada is not listed as one of the options. I chose the US instead, however that hasn't helped.
Any ideas on how I can get this fixed?
Edit: An hour later it seems to be working fine. *shrug*

Yes, try again now. And you didn't need to downgrade the baseband, but it's fine that you did. Make sure you run Oktoprep again though. Just start from step 1.

done it... everything is working great untill now.. but i think you should clarify in the tutorial whether its ok to run the jailbreak program while itunes is working + "itunes helper" or not.. to avoid this program i closed both of them but thanks anyway
I didn't mention it because it's not a problem. iTunes can stay open.

Ok, if your phone is not showing WiFi since you got it, either you should have returned it immediately, or make sure you know how to turn it on and off. WiFi is completely dependent on you, not AT&T or anything like that. You have to make sure that you turn it on when needed.
If you do know how to use it and it's never worked, do a restore on your phone, test and if it's still not working, and take it in to be exchanged.

Have successfully upgraded many phones from new 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and unlocked. However have encountered 2 which for some reason did not unlock. After trying to downgrade to 1.1.1 so I can reload oktoprep and try again I find that for some reason I cannot get past the activation screen. jailbreakme.com only seems to work after many tries and then although it appears to be rebooting it gets stuck on the startup screen with the apple. Tried restoring 1.1.1 all over again but still arrive at the same point. Any ideas?????

I'm about to do the upgrade from unlocked 1.1.1 to 1.1.2
IF something goes wrong during the process, can I still go back to unlocked 1.1.1. ? If so, how?
Is the guide on Page 1 safe???

Hi,
I am a newbie and am used to only Windows. I got a iPhone with 1.1.1 on the board and jail broke it and got it working without any problems. Now I would like to get this upgraded to 1.1.2. However, I have the following concerns....can somebody help me please?
1. My Version shows up as 1.1.1 (3A109a). So, will this process work for getting from Jailbroken 1.1.1 to Jailbroken 1.1.2?
2. My modem firmware shows as 04.01.13_G. So I guess this should not be a problem
3. When you say 'run 1.1.2 Jaibreak program", I downloaded it and it is a zip file. Do run this program on my Windows (XP) PC when iTunes is running on it and the iPhone is connected or something else please?
Appreciate any help,

No, you do the following for a 1.1.1 iPhone:
1. Install "OKToPrep" thru Installer App.
2. Update (not restore) to 1.1.2 thru iTunes.
3. Run the 1.1.2 Jailbreak app thru windows (double click Windows.bat file). Obviously unzip it first.
You're now in 1.1.2 and it's jailbroken and activated.

Hi,
I followed the steps indicated, but I got into the following problems
1. iTunes never updated the version 1.1.2...it hung up with an error and the iPhone showed an icon of iTines with a connecting plug.....
2. So, I started Jailbreak1.1.2...it said that it could not connect when I asked it to Jailbreakme....so,I cancelled it and choose recover from boot mode..that went through fine...
3. Next I started Jailbreak again and selected Jailbreakme...this time it went through a lot of numbers and at the end it rebooted a few times
4. My SIM seemed to be working fine without the anySim1.2.1u. I went ahead and installed and ran anySim1.2.1u, but it failed with the message that it could not update my phone
5. I rebooted and the phone seems back to normal but still shows version1.1.1(3A109a).
Everything is back to where it was...no 1.1.2 :-(
One more thing......I updated the installer because it said that there was an updated version....now it is not showing any of the programs I had installed earlier for uninstallation!!!! How do I uninstall programs I had installed earlier before trying this 1.1.2 update please?
ANybody know what could be happening?
Cheers,

Hi,
I went back on my iPhone to 1.1.1 (unlocked) I installed Oktoprep first and this time and tried the update to 1.1.2 again in iTunes...., it installed fine, but came with a final message that the SIM card was not correct.
I started Jailbreakme 1.1.2 and this also went through till the end and said that it would reboot a few times...but the 'apple' logo on rebooting never disappears!!! I am unable to shut the iPhone off or do anything..it is stuck on the apple logo.
If I start iTunes, it tells me that the sim card is not correct on the PC...but the iPhone is still stuck on the apple logo....I can sync it, but the apple logo never goes. The springboard never comes on....Please help!!!!
Thanks,
Sreenath
You need to run revirginizer on the phone. Not sure why you did it, but you ran anysim before upgrading, which is not a part of jailbreaking. Currently, going from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 with an unlocked SIM causes problems.
Unlocking is different from Jailbreaking. Jailbreaking is hacking to add 3rd party apps.
Don't quote me, but I don't recall unlocking being available for 1.1.2.
Since you unlocked and then attempted to upgrade, your firmware is not recognizing the SIM.
One other thing. Jailbreaking 1.1.2 is NOT possible through www.jailbreakme.com (http://www.jailbreakme.com), it is only for jailbreaking 1.1.1. You need to download the 1.1.2 jailbreak zip and extract it and run the windows.bat file ( for windows obviously) to jailbreak 1.1.2

Thanks!! Anyway after struggling all day, I did the following and am back to square 1
1. I restored the iPhone (hold Sleep+Home for 10 Secs, then when swtched off, hold Home for 10 secs more...and the phone came back to ....Restore mode....) to 1.1.1
2. This got me to 1.1.1 but Modem firmware was at 04.02.13_G. So, I could not get the SIM to work. So, I downgraded the base band to 1.0.2 and restored the phone to 1.1.1 again.
3. This brought me back to my out of the box 1.1.1
4. I Jailbroke it as per 1.1.1, and installed and ran AnySim 1.1 and the phone is now fully functional again.
My question....I do want to get to 1.1.2. However at the start of this thread it says..."If ever you upgraded the phone to 1.1.2 this method will not work....even if you downgraded it back to 1.1.1. Is this true? Which means I will be stuck at 1.1.1 forever!!
Since I virginized the phone, shouldnt this update to 1.1.2 and Jailbreaking work for me?
Thanks,
Sreenath
Yes, but you are unlocking the phone- which is where I think you are running into problems. Do a search for 1.1.2 and Unlocking to verify if it's possible, or if AnySim would work for it.

You can totally still update to 1.1.2. Just run Oktoprep first and then update and jailbreak and unlock with anySIM 1.2.1u. I'm sorry, my instructions are too cautious, I wrote them when this whole process first came out. I'll go change that part about not being able to update to 1.1.2 after downgrading to 1.1.1.

Wildonrio,
I did the stepsas per your brilliant guide again and it worked like a charm!!! Some small things were not as per the guide as below..if it helps another newbie..
1. I was on 1.1.1, Unlocked with AnySim 1.1, Baseband at 04.01.13_G
2. Did as per your guide and it worked exactly like that!!!Thanks
3. Installed AnySim 1.2.1u as per your guide...turned Airplane mode on, started AnySim 1.2.1u..this went through fine and the phone now said "Slide to Unlock". Turned off Airplane mode....and the bars came on!!! I am in India but the phone seems to work, except that there is no carrier name. This is the different part to your guide...it seems to work even if I don't installed iWorld
4. For good measure, I installed iWorld and now it shows the carrier name here!!
Fantastic work mate.........Thanks very much,
Sreenath

Heyas Wildonrio
I just need to JB my phone, not Unlock it. I couldn't find any instructions for this, 1.1.1 to 1.1.2, and am going to use yours since its basically the same thing. The only question I have is regarding step 3:
3. iTunes will now possibly encounter an error, your phone will be unactivated and will inform you that you have an incorrect SIM. Do not panic. Go here and download the 1.1.2 jailbreak program by the iPhone Dev Team and run it. It will take a little bit, just let it completely finish. When it's done, you will have the friendly "Slide to Unlock" screen on your iPhone and you will be taken to the homescreen with the Installer app waiting for you.
This only applies to Unlocked phones correct? Because I should basically be "done" by then if all I'm doing is JB'ing right? Oktoprep -> Gogo 1.1.2 -> Done?

I know I'm not wildonrio, but yes..if you're already on 1.1.1 and just want to jailbreak 1.1.2, all you need to do is install Oktoprep. Then upgrade to 1.1.2, and run the jailbreak dev team software. I did post a guide (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-modifications/jailbreak-software-for-1-1-2-released-by-dev-team-17069.html) awhile back, but it's been long buried.

Hello everyone,
I am from India and i just upgraded to 1.1.2 this evening...I installed iWorld and selected India in the list...I also selected India in the international menu on the iPhone...Now the problem is that whenver i recieve a call the number(of the caller) is without the country code and when i recieve a message, the number(of the sender) is with the country code(+91 in my case)...So i can see the contact's name either in the calls list or message list depending on whether i have stored their number with the country code or without it..(for eg: if i have stored a person's number without the country code then i can see his name when he calls me but i get only his phone number with the country code when he messages me)...This is really bothering me as it's difficult to make out who is calling or messaging....
And the weirdest thing is that the 3rd party apps calld and smsd work flawlessly without the above problem...They both show the name of the contact irrespective of what the contact is stored as...
I really need to get this sorted so pls help guys....Any idea what i can do??
Thank you..

However, nothing happened on my iphone, it's still stucked at INCORRECT SIM "insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone"
Can someone help me? What have i done wrong?

Since windows.bat just flashes, it sounds like you don't have java installed on your computer. You can get it here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Also, make sure you unzip the Dev Team software file before clicking on windows.bat.

Hi....if the Jailbreak Command window is disappearing very fast it means that you don't have Java installed I think...install Java VM from Sun and it should work fine....that is what happened to me and that is what I did
Sreenath
It could also mean that you are trying to launch the windows.bat file from the zipped folder and not from a normal windows environment. Extract all the files to a new folder and try again.
And yes, you need Java on your PC.

Special thanks to Sassha who wrote this (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17395) guide first.

Special thanks to Sassha who wrote this (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17395) guide first.
I knew i should've just kept my phone the way it was lol now my phone wont unlock. So i have unlocked/jailbroken 1.1.1 everything was fine and i figured since they have so many ways to upgrade and unlock 1.1.2 might as well give it a try, i followed the above instructions and i couldnt find any sim 1.2u so i downgraded to 1.1.1 and now any sim can't unlock my phone any reason why? any help will be appreciated. I answer this several times a day. You can jailbreak no problem, you will not get bricked. If you should mess up the bricking or just get tired of it you can always do the restore and it makes like original.
Remember never take a housebroken phone to the Apple store, it has to be original.

I tried using jailbreak 1.1.2, but when I launch the program using the win bat. This pops up all the time:
tmp28430.exe has stopped working..
And yes, java is updated and OktoPrep was installed before the 1.1.2 update. Any suggestion or advice?

You have the option to ugrade the software or restore your last configuration. If you upgrade the software to 1.1.2, itunes will connect to apple download the file and then start the upgarade. After the upgrade is complete, a possible itunes error stating your iphone has an icorrect sim card installed may appear as it did for me.
After that i used the jail break to free the phone and strike the man down a notch for charging me 599.00 and then only giving me a measily 100 credit for use on apple .com.

Yea maybe you should let the download complete and then let iTunes udate the software for your phone. Then make sure it reboots to the emergency call slide screen before you proceed to the jailbreak.
The instruction are clear and consise but you need to follow each step, there is no short cut.
The upgrade went flawlessly. Thanks for the excellent instructions.
However,
Since uprgading to 1.1.2 my speaker volume is almost inaudible (yes, I've turned it to max). It was really loud before. iPod can hardly be heard and clicks are just about audible.
On running iWorld, I can't find United Kingdom/Great Britain/England in the list.
What are other UK SIM owners using?

On the audio thing, take the headset pin and put it in and out a few times. If you take it out at the wrong time the phone still thinks it is unplugged.
Always plug it in or out when the phone is off.

I am trying to follow your instructions...
Can you please help with some details just to be sure.
I am not sure if my 1.1.1 iPhone is unlocked with anySIM 1.1
My modem firmware is 04.02.13_G, not 01 as you specify.
My iPhone is bought in Hong Kong and I'm using it in Indonesia.
I have installed Oktoprep.
Should I continue and follow the rest of your instructions?
Thanks.

Please Help.
I have option click and updated my 1.1.1 iPhone to 1.1.2 on iTunes as instructed. And yes now the iPhone does not work, emergency calls only and has the dreaded iTunes and cable logo.
I then opened the jailbreak.jar and clicked boot from recovery.
It has been more than an hour the progress bar is not moving at all and still says rebooting sending commands...
What do I do?
Thanks.
Rico
