sam, according to thesaurus.com, delinquent is synonymous with "red handed". i think what Buffy meant was in reference to her "red-handed butt".

Thanks, for that website. My wife's girl friend attempted to adopt a blind and abused boxer. The boxer had been so poorly taken care of, she had huge sores from where she was abandoned in her cage. Ugh Im so bored! Anyone been watching the drama with the olympic torch? Well my fiance is a customs officer and he is going to work at 330 am to be there when the torch gets into san francisco. I guess they need extra officers there. I was wondering, do they just sit in their seat with the torch on the plane, with it lit? I know probably not, but thats just a funny mental picture. :tounge:

Getting the torch to China will be a challenge, in and of itself. My bigger concern is whether the political climate between China, Europe and the United States may sour to the point that politics again becomes a factor in the Olympics.

That's a great question regarding how the torch is transported. It's supposed to stay lit. Like to see how TSA handles this one!

The flame is transferred to a small rectangular box with a golden hoop at the top to carry it with. It's similar to an oil lamp.

This is going to take a bit of time to explain, so bear with me. might as well hit you with names.

Carissa - terrific friend of mine
Catherine - friend of Carissa - I kind of am friends with her

right.

So I recently have been talking to Carissa, more than earlier, really, and I realized I really liked her once I got to know her well (I had been "hello" friends with her before, the kind who says hello in the hallway, and that's it) and apparently, she likes me back... two people who like each other... end of story, problem solved, right? wrong.

Catherine is a friend of Carissa who likes me, and of this I am as sure of that as I am that I have 2 hands. Do you see the problem here? If I ask Carissa out, Catherine might no longer want to be friends with Carissa. If I don't ask out Carissa, she may think that I don't like her, and lose hope.

What the f-ck kind of situations do I find myself in? and what should I do?

Buffy
04-17-2008, 06:52 PM
Ask Carissa out and let her decide! They may just be able to work it out between the two of them...and hopefully Catherine can adopt the "you win some, you lose some" attitude.

BTW-what age do you think kids should get cel phones? I am old enough that I did not have a cel phone until college, and even then they were expensive and crappy. I was thinking middle school? Like, when they are old enough to go places without a parent. My oldest daughter is 10 and I think she would be responsible with it now, but she does not NEED one now.

I am not into getting them stuff just because others have it. They do not want for anything, BTW. The 10 (well, almost 10) year old has a cello, a percussion kit, a keyboard, a DS, etc... I think the cel phone is something they should have for safety when they are old enough to go out alone with friends. I do not let my 9 year old run around unsupervised, due to my fear of child molesters.
But I am not a prude. If her friends get them and she can earn it through showing me responsibility in other areas, I may be open to it.

Maybe I should start a poll to see more opinions.

So, how is it going with the asking out? I hope well.

Well, Psychology is 13 and he has an iPhone.

No, my friend. It's not over by a long shot. Finding that special person is sometimes a lifelong task. Don't waste your life waiting. Rather, enjoy yourself to the fullest, and seek out those who enjoy being with you. You will find that romance has the tendency to bite you in the ass when you least expect.

Hayesimus
04-23-2008, 08:49 PM
so a girl dies and the get a whopping 1,000 dollar fine? Is that all her life was worth? I'm sure the family got a settlement of some sort, but still, it would seem that there should be a MUCH stiffer penalty for the park itself so that they will take things more seriously than they apparently DID.

Hayesimus
04-23-2008, 08:52 PM
Eragon, how were you involved in this incident? Just a witness?

Eragon
04-23-2008, 09:02 PM
Eragon, how were you involved in this incident? Just a witness?

I was one of the involved operators. I was assigned to the middle section of the train. Another operator was responsible for making sure the passenger in the back of the train was properly harnessed. The train was launched with the girl on top of the harness. When the train left the platform, she was ejected from the train as it stared the initial loop; she ht the train as it completed the loop.

The fine you question is not atypical for an industrial accident. That monetary value is set in statute. $1000.00 for a loss of life accident is terrible. At the NRC, it was not unheard of to fine a nuclear utility hundreds of thousands of dollars for nuclear safety violations. Different agency, different way of killing the public.

Hayesimus
04-23-2008, 09:04 PM
well, that is terrible. what happened to the operator that was responsible? Nowadays, i would imagine he'd be fired and sued by the family all at the same time. But back then things were probably a little different.

Eragon
04-23-2008, 09:09 PM
It was 1987. I was a month away from my 19th birthday. We were all relocated to different jobs in the park. I was assigned to security. It was after a broiling day on my feet in the hot sun, that I fell asleep at the wheel of my parents' car. I hit a telephone pole. Woke me up, alright, but I was lucky to be alive.

That was the last season I worked at Great Adventure.

Hayesimus

Eragon
04-23-2008, 10:07 PM
Time. I enjoy going to amusement parks with my family, but I never forget what happened. I am sensitive to watching younger ride operators who don't provide the warranted attention to their rides, as well as rude/unruly guests.

Hayesimus
04-23-2008, 10:10 PM
Yeah, i have a cousin that was involved in a car accident. She was hit by someone else and was pretty much unharmed, but it killed the other person(s). For a little while after that she had issues driving because she felt somehow responsible.

Buffy
04-23-2008, 11:05 PM
Every one of us has endangered someone else's life at some point in time; whether it was by failing to check your 'blind spot' while driving, talking on the phone or texting in traffic, or showing up sleep-deprived at a job which requires focus, or simple human error...and the list goes on and on.

The responsible person should be held accountable; the family needs that, and it helps raise awareness of everyone. So I'm glad there were repercussions. When it comes to crime, I'm pretty tough and conservative. However; when it comes to accidents, only those who have never made a careless mistake should be able to vilify that person for life. There aren't any.

I'm sorry you had to witness that, Eragon. What a terrible memory.

honestly, i love the look and feel of it. i went with fairly standard colors - black top and gray bottom - both matched the website perfectly. the form is excellent and i dont see any of the internal framing showing through the leather as others have stated. the only thing i dont like about it so far is the home button. its noticeably less responsive, to a point where im pushing it almost too hard to get results. maybe its just something to get used to. i put a pic on irovr yesterday. drop by, you'll see it there.

I played the games.

never even seen the movie.

Doom 3 is a bit too scary for me though...

I mean I didn't like it much compared to remakes of other old games.. such as RtCW, coincidentially also made by Id.

I gotta tell ya. I had pretty mediocre expectations of the movie, but I was thouroughly pleased. Especially during once segment of the movie where it is shown from the view point of the protagonist. It looks like you are playing the game. It was awesome lol. I'd recommend at least renting it.

I'll see if I can't borrow it from one of my friends.

have you played RtCW?

so the phone is don... I've tried everything and to no prevail. The y nor the 6 won't work in landscape no mater what and the icons are still not moving properly. I want to say this is directly linked to vwallpaper but I have no way of proving it nor does it matter.

The nearest iphone store is 5 hrs away I think. I'm so depressed right now! Ahhhhhhhhhh.

I'm disgusted by many things. That was more a momentary state of shock. I'm an artist remember? The human body is supposed to be a beautiful thing. SUPPOSED to be. lol. Had it been a picture of so skin disorder or anything involving blood, then disgusted would be an adequate description of my response. Odd how I'm not grossed out by animal related maladies, but human instances tend to make me lightheaded. OH! sounds like something for the things you never knew about me... :P

Buffy
