Tether question concerning iPhone

I know it is possible to tether our iPhone's to use laptops for the edge service. My question is this; My iPhone that is jailbroke is 'homed' up with my imac at home. My laptop is a PC running xp. Can I tether my iPhone to my xp running laptop? Or does the OS that is usually syncing with the iPhone have to be the same to do the tethering? Hope that is not to confusing...
