I read with much sadness last week that Apple management has decided not to ship iphone to SA..

Needless to say this was devastating blow to me and many iphone lovers here. what i would love to know is what was the rationale behind this decision, cos business wise it doesnt make sense as South Africa is the leading economy in Africa and Telecoms is a booming industry.

If you can share some light here and also find out for us what can we do to convince them otherwise..

I'm against unlocking, but in this case, I say go ahead and do it. The iPhone's worth it.

Sorry to hear but I would just recommend buying and unlocking. If you really want it that badly.

Yeah. I was a Genius a bit earlier, but now I'm Evangelist again with 996. Guess a few of my posts were deleted.

You won't lose any features if you do it right. Well, assuming you sign up for a data plan with whichever carrier you use. The Wifi will still be free no matter what but the only thing you have to worry about would be the EDGE (or something comparable).

You will lose the Visual Voicemail feature by unlocking it and using it on another carrier.

I'm using mine with Rogers in Canada and it's my favorite phone so far. This year alone I've gone through a Moto V3i, Palm Treo 680, SE W810i, and HTC TyTN.
