View Full Version : free legal MP3 sites?

While this started out as a favor to Dad, searching for free legal MP3 sites for my brother to use should he get a MP3 player, I'm now wondering if anyone might have some recommendations. I already know about Jamendo and the music section under Download.com, both excellent sites, but I want to know if there are others I'm somehow missing. Thanks in advance!

If you want to just stream songs (though download is possible on desktop), this is nice ...> http://seeqpod.com (http://seeqpod.com/) ... works very fast on the Iphone, too. I don't know how legal it is though...

By the way, what is a "free legal MP3" site anyway? A place where people (not famous artists) give away their music for free?

SeeqPod seems legit, I've looked up some stuff about them and it seems like they've done all the right stuff.

Most of the free legal sites are oftentimes independent artists, yes, and this is what I was looking for. I should've made myself clearer. Seeqpod is streaming only whereas I'm looking for something where I can download songs. Also, I do know about bittorrent, which is really more a downloading protocol and not a site per se, but I'm looking for sites similar to Jamendo.

Each result has a url that ends in .mp3.... there's no way to automatically copy that link, but thankfully we all have eyes and hands and Notepad.

Not all results work this way, but most do!

This site has dozens / hundreds of links to MP3s singles and albums from independent artists, unsigned acts and some major names also: eg Smashing Pumpkins, REM, Crimea, NIN.

I've only just started wading though the lists and have already turned up some real treasure..
