I just tried to upgrade the software on my iPhone fom 1.1.1 to 1.1.2. It upgraded fine but then went all weird on me. The phone is not unlocked, it is a regular phone. So I downloaded the 1.1.1 file and tried to restore back.

The restore starts and the software installs and verifys fine. But it's when it tries to install the firmware part, I get an error: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1015)".

The screen just shows the cable with the disc on the screen.

Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Thanks.

Yes, if you're already on 1.1.2, the only current solution at the moment is to downgrade back to 1.1.1, install oktoprep and upgrade back to 1.1.2.

Here's my step-by-step guide to downgrading from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 using Windows. Please note that this is just a temporary solution, so that you can install the Oktoprep app and upgrade back to 1.1.2. (Big thanks to faseone for confirming that it works!)

Before you begin, you'll need to download the following:
Firmware 1.1.1
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....a_Restore.ipsw (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-3883.20070927.In76t/iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw)

iBrickr
http://cre.ations.net/creation/ibrickr (http://cre.ations.net/creation/ibrickr)

Instructions for Windows

Step 1. Dock iphone and plug into computer.

Step 2. Start up iTunes

Step 3. While holding down the shift key, hit restore. You'll get a prompt box. Choose the 1.1.1 firmware that you've just downloaded.

Step 4. Wait for the phone to downgrade. You will receive an error at the end and the phone will get stuck in restore mode. This is typical. Just exit iTunes.

Step 5. Start up iBrickr. Choose "Boot up Phone". This will kick your phone out of restore mode. After the process is finished, iTunes will start up again automatically.

Step 6. Restore your phone from a previous backup. After it's done, you won't be able to make any phone calls (since the baseband has been changed), but you will be able to use wifi. Using wifi, visit jailbreakme.com to jailbreak your phone.

Step 7. After you've jailbroken 1.1.1, follow the jailbreak guide in my first post to install oktoprep and upgrade to 1.1.2:
http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum...tml#post139662 (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone-modifications/jailbreak-software-for-1-1-2-released-by-dev-team-17069.html#post139662)

Note: I'm sure the process is almost identical for a Mac Intel, except you hit option+restore in step 3, and would use Independence (instead of iBrickr) to break out of restore mode. Can someone confirm?

Thank you so much for your help.

Seems like that jailbreak program does not work in Vista. I will have to try that part tomorrow at work on an XP machine.

Ravman-
if your phone is not unlocked, call Apple. It is so much easer to call up and make an apt. with the Genius bar and have them fix it, then running the risk of messing it up yourself.

Plus, the method quoted above calls for iBrikr or mac equivalent program. These are generally used for mod/unlocking. Why mess with it and run the risk of ruining it further? You paid for the activiation and the warratny that comes with it. When the product has messed up in a way that it shouldn't, take advantage of what most users here on EIC do not have.

My 2 cents.

Restart your computer or try to do it on another , happened to me when upgrading to 1.1.1 and was getting so frustrated... Restarted PC, did restore and viola :)

It's weird, I double click the Windows.bat file, a DOS window appears and then vanishes really quickly. Is this supposed to happen?

If I look in the bat file, I see the following line:

java -jar jailbreak.jar

I am thinking it cannot find the java file.

Do you have java and Microsoft .NET Frameworks 3.0 installed? If not, I've posted links for them here:

Also, try restarting your computer.

hotskate,
What is your current situation now? Try to give as much detail as possible...ie, what firmware you're on, if you're jailbroken, unlocked, etc. I dont have a Mac, but I'll try my best to help. Or perhaps someone who does have a Mac can help you out.

No it wont bring anything up, ie: paired devices, enable search mode etc.
Just seems like its trying to turn on the bluletooth menu but nothing happens, I noticed the bluetooth was checked as off after i upgraded the phone to the new software and went to settings to turn it on and nothing since then.

Thanks

I attached my iPhone, the usual sync/backup messages appeared, and then the phone locked up (continuous wheel icon, iTunes unresponsive). I had to do the hard reset to the iPhone (which I discovered by pressing the home button and holding down the power on/off button). By around midnight, I finally have the phone restored, but music and video synching seems to lock up iTunes. These all seem related to the upgrade to the iPhone software that ran last night. HTH

Ok, I have managed to boot the phone back up using iBrickr and restored the firmware back to 1.1.1. I am now having problems jailbreaking the phone. I am not sure if the site is down, or if it is a baseband issue.

I have tried: jailbreakme.com and it seems to do nothing? Goes back to the slider bar and that is it.

I also tried the website: http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com and that also does nothing. No response from the site or anything.

Any suggestions?

Yup, I am using WIFI. I eventually get a Safari message saying the server is not responding?

But even though the phone was upgraded to 1.1.2, then downgraded back to 1.1.1, I should still be able to Jailbreak it right?

Jailbreakme.com doesn't seem to do anything? Am I doing something wrong? I go to it, run the install (bottom of the site) and it does nothing? Just goes back to the slider screen.

Sounds to me the tiff exploit is still patched...
repeat the process with a fresh RESTORE shift + restore and choose 1.1.1...
then use ibrikr again to take it out of restore mode after the error...
then visit jailbreakme.com again...
shouldnt take long to do that
keep me posted as I have donr this twice with no problems

I just wanted to ask a quick question? I installed the OKtPrep utility, upgraded the firmware and then tried to run the jailbreak.

It will not run, it is telling me that I need to run the OKToPrep fix before I upgrade the firmware. But I did that?

Am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to run the upgrade in a lower version of iTunes?

Ravman,
It sounds like your Oktoprep got wiped out during the 1.1.2 upgrade. When you went from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2, are you sure you hit "update"? Many people accidentally hit "restore" instead, which completely erases Oktoprep during the upgrade process.

You'll have to downgrade back to 1.1.1. You won't have any cell service, but you'll be able to use Wifi to jailbreak your phone again, install oktoprep and upgrade back to 1.1.2 (this time, make sure you hit "update" and not "restore"). Just follow this guide:

Yes I definitely hit the "UPDATE" and not restore. It did the download and ran the update.

There is one thing that is weird when the 1.1.2 update has occurred. You know when you do a restore, you get the USB cable and CD display on the screen? Well when my 1.1.2 upgrade has finished, that picture still remains on the screen, along with the scroll bar. Is this supposed to happen?

That jailbreakme.com website is very tempremental. It doesn't seem to run 99% of the time.

Since you did hit update, I bet Oktoprep just wasn't installed correctly in the first place -- especially since you said jailbreakme.com has been acting up. Try downgrading to 1.1.1 again. This time, after you finishing installing Oktoprep, launch Installer again and double check to see if Oktoprep is listed in the "Uninstall" area. If it is, then you're good to update back to 1.1.2.

Ok, I just managed to Jailbreak and install OkToPrep again. I checked the uninstall area and it is there. I will uninstall it and reinstall it, just to be on the safe side.

I will then try another 1.1.2 upgrade. Can you recommend a good place to grab the new file? Seems like the update option in iTunes does not download the right one?

Thanks.

I think my iPhone is buggered. I'm gonna take it to the store today and see what they can do?

The phone has only been jail breaked and not unlocked. I have AT&T service, so there was no need for me to anySIM it. Jailbreaking does not mess up the baseband on an iPhone right?

The weird screen still appears even after a fresh update to 1.1.2. I will see what they say?

But then, if I run the jailbreak, it runs and says it completed successfully. It does a reboot, but the screen still remains as the usb cable, CD and scroll bar (slide for emergency).

Connect to iTunes and that should go away. It shouldn't ask you to restore.

Shouldn't be needed.

I forgot to do it once myself, but it still went away after jailbreaking as soon as I connected to iTunes. This was after the second reboot--the second one being the one that happens automatically.

Thought I'd have to start again, but within a few seconds of connecting to iTunes the restore screen disappeared and the phone was activated a few seconds after that.

*Run iTunes and let it see the phone. The Activation screen on the iPhone should disappear.
*Quit iTunes and then run the Jailbreak
*Touch wood, it should work?

So let me get this right?

*I downgrade to 1.1.1 (iBrickr out of the error).
*Jailbreak and install OkToPrep
*Upgrade to 1.1.2
*Run iTunes and let it see the phone. The Activation screen on the iPhone should disappear.
*Quit iTunes and then run the Jailbreak
*Touch wood, it should work?

Now you got it!
You can even sync at this point before you jailbreak... just get back activated before you give the jailbreak a twirl

Did you also get that weird screen? The USB cable, CD and scroll bar (scroll for emergency)?

Shouldn't be needed.

I forgot to do it once myself, but it still went away after jailbreaking as soon as I connected to iTunes. This was after the second reboot--the second one being the one that happens automatically.

Thought I'd have to start again, but within a few seconds of connecting to iTunes the restore screen disappeared and the phone was activated a few seconds after that.

To be absolutely honest I dont remember if it was that or the normal activation screen but you should get the normal screen once itunes sees the phone.
Step 2: Update to 1.1.2

1. Connect your device to your computer

2. Launch iTunes

3. Click on "Check for Updates" or "Update". DO NOT click "Restore"!!

4. Wait forever for your device to update

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3: Jailbreak your activated iPhone

1. Close iTunes

2. Make sure your device is connected to your computer

3. Extract the jailbreak folder provided by the Dev Team (see link at very top). On Windows, double click on windows.bat, on Intel Mac, double click on jailbreak.jar

4. Follow the on screen instructions.

I guess we were going so fast we missed the whole activate in itubnes in red

I cannot get jailbreakme.com to work now. Darn thing can be annoying at times. I will keep trying until it works (the jailbreak bit).

Yes. And I didn't need to start over again--I just connected and that was it.

Right now I cannot get past the initial jailbreak phase (website must be busy). I will keep trying until I get there.

I will keep you guys informed.

Thank you for your help.

Yes. And I didn't need to start over again--I just connected and that was it.

LOL you're like me.

I've tried running the jailbreakme.com site like 30 times now, and I it does not seem to be working? It's very random when it wants to work.

All I can do is continue trying!! It's darn annoying though!!

If not, will have to try at home.

Well I managed to do it all again, and still nothing? I jail broke it in 1.1.2 and it rebooted twice and connected it to iTunes. I get the "Activate Your Phone" screen in iTunes and it doesn't go from that?

This is what I did:

Restored back to 1.1.1
Jailbroke and installed OkToPrep
Upgraded to 1.1.2
Jail broke
connected to iTunes.

Still no luck!!

That is where I might be going wrong? I just updated to 1.1.2 and then I think I quit iTunes and ran the jail break.

So what did you do? Ran the update to 1.1.2 and then let iTunes see the phone? What do you do after that?

Also what version of iTunes? I am using the latest version.
