can't receive sms from non numerical number

i can't receive sms on my iphone from non numerical numbers and from short numbers (such as sms sent by service providers and banks). I can normally receive sms from normal numbers.
your help on this issue is appreciated.

You should be talking to AT&T about that. It's not something local to the phone as far as I know.
I recently had to call them to stop some SMS messages I was getting from AT&T Trivia for Mmode, and they came in with the short numbered "addresses"
