View Full Version : Unlock a new 1.1.1 iPhone in 5 minutes on Windows

THIS PROCESS STILL WORKS BUT I HAVE DEVISED AN EASIER AND BETTER METHOD. GO HERE (http://www.everythingiphone.com/forum/iphone-modifications/jailbreak-unlock-a-brand-new-1-1-1-iphone-without-using-a-computer-the-final-guide-15895.html#post133922) INSTEAD TO UNLOCK YOUR PHONE WITHOUT EVER TOUCHING A COMPUTER!
IF YOU STILL WANNA DO THIS GUIDE, IT WORKS JUST FINE:
NEW IN BOX UNACTIVATED 1.1.1 iPHONE ----> ACTIVATED, JAILBROKEN, AND UNLOCKED iPHONE
Ok, so it's not quite 5 minutes, maybe more like 15 :)
In Windows (Vista users: disable your firewall and run everything with admin rights):
1. Slide to reach the emergency dial screen
2. Enter *#307# and then press call. Don't forget the asterisk (*).
3. Your phone will ring itself. Delete all the numbers at the top, press 0, then call. Now answer the call.
4. Press hold now and your phone will start ringing again
5. Press Dismiss and your phone will go into the Dialpad screen
6. Press Contacts from the bottom bar and add a contact
7. Add a contact with a random name and homepage as "prefs://1F" (no quotes). Now save the contact and click the URL. This will bring up your Settings menu. First, go to General, and change autolock to Never. Now go to WiFi. Choose your network and if you did it right you will see a Wifi signal on top of the iphone.
8. Now press the home button, and do steps 1 - 5 again. Add another contact but this time make the address http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com/
9. Save the contact and then go to the 2nd url you just saved. Safari will load the page and then close automatically to the "Activate iPhone" screen.
10. Next, download and run touchfree (http://www.slovix.com/touchfree/touchfree-alpha.exe) to get your phone jailbroken. (If it doesn't work, especially for you Vista users, try this program (http://195.122.131.17/files/64991145/CARNAVAL_by_brasuco-v0.3.rar.html) instead). Once this is done, you should automatically be taken to the homescreen with all your widgets*. Alternatively, you may also try adding a contact with the address "www.jailbreakme.com" and visiting that website. This is brand new, but apparently jailbreaks your phone using the Internet. Please let me know results of this.
11. Next, go to the Installer widget on your phone, and download BSD Subsystem, and then OpenSSH in that order. (If you can't see them in the list, download Community Sources first.)
12. Next, download anySIM 1.1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?bez447jmbhd). Use this link to download. Do NOT install anySIM 1.0.2 or you will be in a world of pain. Put anySIM 1.1 onto your phone using one of the following two methods:Option A. Use WinSCP (http://winscp.net/download/winscp404.exe). To use WinSCP, log on to a Wi-Fi network on your phone and get your IP address by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and then clicking the blue arrow to the right of your selected Wi-Fi network. Open up WinSCP and put your phone's IP in there, use the username "root" and the password "alpine" and then make sure the File protocol is set to SCP. Now click Login and let it sit for about a minute (Ignore/Click yes to any warning messages). Once you're in, drag and drop the anySIM 1.1 folder you downloaded previously into the Applications folder. Now go in to the anySIM folder, find the file called anySIM, right click it, go to properties, and then change its permissions to 0755 by putting an X in every box in the third column. Do the same thing for the Info.plist file. Once you're done, restart your phone.
Option B. Use iBrickr (http://ibrickr.com/downloads/ibrickr_v0.91.zip). Click Applications, then Browse Applications, then install the PXL and follow on screen instructions. Now find anySIM 1.1 in the application list (make sure it's version 1.1!), and install it. Now restart your phone. (NOTE: I haven't tried installing anySIM 1.1 with iBrickr so this should work only in theory. If someone tries it and it works, please let me know. Thanks.)
13. Now click on the anySIM widget on your homescreen and let it run. (Make sure autolock is set to Never in Settings > General.) It doesn't matter what SIM is in your phone. (You might have to restart your phone after.)
14. Now download and run One Click Activation 1.1.1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?dtvzxljmtdd) to get your phone activated in Windows. To run it, open the extracted folder and double click the activate.bat file. (Do this even if you have already activated your phone with AT&T, this step is necessary no matter what!). Watch carefully and make sure it doesn't say "Not jailbroken" as it is loading. If it says this, run touchfree again, and then One Click Activation again until you no longer see the "Not jailbroken" message.
15. Finally, go into Settings > General > About and check out your storage capacity. If it says 300mb, then you need to fix this by using WinSCP or iBrickr. Navigate to var/root and you should see two folders, one called Media and another called Mediaold. Delete Media, then rename Mediaold to Media.
16. Your phone is now jailbroken and unlocked! Feel free to delete the anySIM app in WinSCP if you wish as it is no longer needed.
Now from now on, make sure to never get any more firmware upgrades past 1.1.1 until you get confirmation from the hacking community that you can. Doing this will most likely brick your phone, thanks to Apple.
*If you can't get to the homescreen after trying to run touchfree, restore your iPhone in iTunes first, then run touchfree again. The best way to do this is to open up iTunes, hold the sleep and home button for exactly 10 seconds, then let go of the sleep and keep holding the home button until iTunes says you need to restore the phone. Let iTunes restore the phone to firmware 1.1.1. Then restart the tutorial from step 1.
On a Mac:
I don't own a Mac, so these directions are more vague, but I know it works.
Download iNdependence (http://independence.googlecode.com/files/iNdependence_v1.2.5.dmg), plug in your phone, and use this program to Activate and Jailbreak your phone. Download anySIM 1.1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?bez447jmbhd) and get it on your phone somehow. I think you can use iNdependence. Once it's on there, set autolock to Never and let anySIM run. That should work!

Do not worry about SIM cards. You can have any SIM in there, or even no SIM.

thanks for the quick response.
should i start to do this with the phone connected to itunes? or should i close itunes?
in this method there is no need to visit the jailbrake page on safari and all that complicated stuff?
just plug my new phone, run the 2 programs listed here and then anysim in the iphone?
Phone, Wifi works? anything you have noticed not working?
im willing to give this a try tomorrow on my new 1.1.1 phone

It's always best to keep iTunes closed.
You will still need to visit that webpage, but I don't see why it's complicated. You just open up Safari and go to the page.
And yes, it's just those 3 programs - One Click Activation, touchfree, and anySIM 1.1

No, because you can't jailbreak your phone at all without going to that page first. How can you tell it's down? If it is, we either need to wait for it to work again, or find out where they've moved it.
EDIT: From the jailbreak page "We did an upgrade last night and the jailbreak site was not working for the last 6 or so hours. So if you tried the jailbreak and it didn't work. Try again."
unless you plan on using a different carrier, I would hold off on unlocking the SIM. It's suspected that a new firmware version might be right around the corner, coinciding with the release of Leopard, and it might be another case of bricking your phone if you update with the SIM unlocked.

Hey man, thanks for the post. I unlocked my OOTB 1.1.1 with anySIM 1.1 and it worked great. Just Wondering, when someone puts in their SIM ..... do they have to activate it?? What does this involve if so??

This will forever be an issue. "Holding off" just means that your phone will work with the next update, but not the next. People who want unlocked phones just have to deal with the fact that the next update might not be unlockable and/or might brick their phone if they try it.

Nope, you only have to activate once and then any SIM will work with the phone. I tried 3 different SIM cards in one phone and they all worked just fine, even after I restored the phone! A restore doesn't relock the phone at all.

Hmmm... Okay. Cuz right when I unlocked the phone, (I think) I still had my SIM inserted and activated. Then put my buddies SIM in my phone and it asked me connect to itunes, which then asked for activation.

Also, I don't have a T-Mobile SIM, or even another AT&T SIM at the moment... I am going to give this phone to my friend in exchange for his locked iPhone but don't want to give him a locked phone. Anyway to test the unlock without a SIM??

I used Independence and then installed AnySIM through Independence, so I used your guide. SMBPref's wasnt installed through Independence though... and when I go to it in Installer, it tells me I need to upgrade to 1.1.1 , which is the firmware I am running....

I'm going to ask a really stupid question here. One of the steps you say:
3. Next, go to the Installer widget on your phone, and download BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH.
Are these download options shown on this "Installer Widget"?
Thanks.

They are third party apps. You touch "Installer" on your phone's homescreen, go to the System category, and download those two apps by touching them. It makes sense once you try it...

Great stuff.
Once you have unlocked the phone, can you then remove those two tools (BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH)? Or do they need to stay on forever? Just wondering how much disk space they took up?
And does YouTube work?

You don't need to leave them on if you don't want. They take up about 6 megabytes tho, which is essentially the size of a single song from iTunes :P. Also, they are necessary for lots of other third party apps, if you're into that.

Yes, YouTube works... unlike in 1.0.2 .... you had to manually activate YouTube... this is done automaticallly with this unlock.
BTW, I used a program called iJailbreak (currently for Intel MACS only)
iJailbreak (http://cashflowlogic.com/iJailBreak%20for%20iPhone.zip)
This program automatically Jailbreaks, Installs SSH, and SpringBoard patch. And SMBPref's from Installer loaded with ease.

I don't see any point in waiting. But if you really want to wait for the next update and then wait weeks for the dev team to release the new unlock, you are free to. I'd go for it now and then if you want to update to the newest firmware, wait for the dev team but in the mean time, use your phone.
And the German iPhone will be the same problem - continual hacking after each update.

I get the DOS prompt up, it tries to do something and says the following on the screen:

s_Waiting for phone
s_Connection established
e_Not jailbroken
r_command
And just sits there? I am running under Vista. Would this have anything to do with it?

Okay, just did the following. I could not get any of the unlocking to work with the original instructions.
I downloaded a tool and managed to jailbreak my iPhone (firmware 1.1.1). If I insert a AT&T sim into the device, it works fine. Now I need to unlock the phone using anySim.
This is where I am having problems. If I use iBrickr, it tells me to downgrade to 1.0.2 before it will do anything. I try using WinSCP and cannot FTP into my iPhone. I get a "Network Error: Connection Refused" error.
Any help?

Okay, I have managed to jail break my iPhone (firmware 1.1.1), install the Installer App (BSD & OpenSSH) and copy AnySim over and set the properties (original poster, there are a lot of errors in your instructions. Suggest you re-visit and amend them). My AT&T sim works fine on this phone.
This was not an easy route to get to. I had to restore my iPhone twice.
I now have anySim installed (via Winscp) on the iPhone, but it does not run. I click on the icon and the anySim screen appears. You have the "slide to unlock" bar at the bottom. The thing is, it's stuck and will not scroll to the right. The screen is frozen, sits there for about 20 seconds and eventually goes back to the main screen.
I am still working on this, but suggestions would be appreciated :o)
Everything up to now is restorable, but once anySim has been done, you can never turn back!!

Yea for XP. I took Vista off my comp when I bought it! ravman you should let others know what program to use on Vista.

I cannot comment about XP, as I don't use that anymore. But if it worked for you, then it must work :)
I used a jail break tool called "Carnaval by Brasuco". I found it randomly whilst searching on loads of sites. I can post the application somwhere, but I'm not sure if I can find the link to it again. But I will try.
So would it be safe to say that for XP users, there are no errors in the guide?
Also, what jailbreak program did you use for Vista so I can link to it?

I want to commend the author or this post on the excellent instructions contained in the first post. While it took longer than 5 minutes and more than one click, I was successful in activating, jailbreaking and unlocking a brand new 1.1.1 iPhone is a very short time. I am using it on a T-Mobile network and everything works great.
Kudos also to the developers of CARNAVAL. As a Vista user, this program is a godsend with fantastic instructions on how to activate and jailbreak a new phone.
If you are waiting, give it a try - just remember to follow the instructions to the letter. Cheers!:2cool:

wildonrio,
If I used the old anysim and unlocked my phone on 1.0.2 can I use the reviginze tool to go back to a 'clean' 1.0.2 and then upgrade to 1.1.1 and then use your directions. In other words is your tutorial only good for phones that were 'born' with 1.1.1 or will a revirginized 1.0.2 work as well. Thanks in advance.

It will work for a truly revirginized 1.0.2 phone, but reviginizing a 1.0.2 phone is not a walk in the park. I have a 1.0.2 unlocked phone and after researching how to revirginize it, it looked so risky and confusing that I think I'm just gonna sell my 1.0.2 phone on eBay and hope to make at least $400 out of it an account of it being unlocked, and then buy a new 1.1.1 phone.
But yes, revirginize your 1.0.2 phone and use this tutorial and all should be well.

4. Next, download anySIM 1.1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?bez447jmbhd) and put it onto your phone using one of the following two methods:Option A.
Thanks.)
5. Go to Settings > General and change autolock to Never. Now click on the anySIM widget on your homescreen and let it run. It doesn't matter what SIM is in your phone. (You might have to restart your phone after.)
6. Your phone is now jailbroken and unlocked! Feel free to delete the anySIM app in WinSCP if you wish as it is no longer needed.

So let me just be sure here. You put anySIM 1.1 on your phone through iBrickr, ran it, and got the "Your phone is now unlocked!" confirmation message, restarted your phone, put in your new SIM, and it said "Invalid SIM"?
If that is all correct, I need to ask, did you try running the One Click Activation 1.1.1 from Step 1 of my instructions? That step is completely necessary, no matter what. It isn't just activating your phone to use with iTunes, it is activating it to use multiple SIM cards.

So are you saying that you ran anySIM 1.0.2 on a 1.1.1 iPhone? If that's what you're saying, that is pretty bad news. In my instructions, I specifically tell you to make sure that it's anySIM 1.1. Maybe I should bold it...
In your situation, I really can't think of what to tell you. I guess put anySIM 1.1 on there (link in original post) and run it and see what happens. I bet it won't work tho... Looks like you'll be headin over to hackint0sh.org to post your question there because I don't know what to tell you.

Any ideas as to what is the quickest and easiest way to revirginize v1.0.2 on pc??
NEW IN BOX UNACTIVATED 1.1.1 iPHONE ----> ACTIVATED, JAILBROKEN, AND UNLOCKED iPHONE
In Windows (Vista users: disable your firewall and run everything with admin rights):
1. First, download and run One Click Activation 1.1.1 (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=check_download&ufid=3864ECE15EECA07F&key=0d63fbae1ec16387115753abe31e7465f0320f8c) to get your phone activated in Windows*. To run it, open the extracted folder and double click the activate.bat file. (Do this even if you have already activated your phone with AT&T, this step is necessary no matter what!)
2. It will direct you to visit a webpage on your phone, so make sure you have either Wi-Fi or EDGE access on your phone**.
3. Next, go to the Installer widget on your phone, and download Community Sources, BSD Subsystem, and OpenSSH in that order.
4. Next, download anySIM 1.1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?bez447jmbhd) and put it onto your phone using one of the following two methods:
Option A.

Now find anySIM 1.1 in the application list (make sure it's version 1.1!), and install it. Now restart your phone. (NOTE: I haven't tried installing anySIM 1.1 with iBrickr so this should work only in theory. If someone tries it and it works, please let me know. Thanks.)
*If you can't get past the Emergency Dial screen, try doing the following:
1. Slide to reach the emergency dial screen
2. Enter *#307# and then press call
3. Your phone will ring itself. Delete all the numbers at the top, press 0, then call. Now answer the call.
4. Press hold now and your phone will start ringing again
5. Press Dismiss and your phone will go into the contacts/dial screen
6. Press contacts from the bottom bar and add a contact
7. Add a contact with a random name and homepage as "prefs://1F" (no quotes). Now save the contact and click the URL. This will bring up your Settings menu. Go to WiFi. Choose your network and if you did it right you will see a wifi signal on top of the iphone.
8. Shut down your iphone and restart. After the iPhone restarts it should have the Wifi icon showing at the top.
9. Now do steps 1 - 5 again. For the next step add another contact give it another name and this time add the address as http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com/
10. Save the contact and then go to the 2nd url you just saved. Safari will load the page and then close automatically to the "Activate iPhone" screen.
11. Now run touchfree, and then try the One Click Activation again.
**If you can't get to the homescreen after trying to run touchfree, restore your iPhone in iTunes first.
EDIT: Link to anySIM 1.1 was updated, if you were having trouble, try it now.

The first time you log into winscp it takes about a minute but the access denied message comes after 15secs. If you don't hit abort and wait, it will then give you a warning. Just accept and you should enter.

1. downgraded to 1.0.2 by using file iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw in itune 7.4.3.1
2. ran ibrikr_v0.91
3. ran PACAY
4. install and ran anySIM v1.02
After I am done, the phone could not recognize my Tmobile sim :embarrassed: (which I had in the phone during the unlocking process), but youTube works:laugh2:, Sarafi works:laugh2:.
Any idea what went wrong, and what the fix is? Should I use anySIM v1.1 instead?
Thank you very much.

The first time you log into winsco it takes about 35 secs but the access denied message comes after 15secs. If you don't hit abort and wait it will them give you a warning. Just accept and you should enter.

You certainly will have problems updating in the future, only do this if you are willing to avoid any more updates on your phone.

Yes you can, and the One Click Activation part too.
I followed the original instructions so I did the one click activation part first and it did say "not jailbroken". Yet at the end of the process everything works fine with all memory capacity properly indicated. I have done this on 4 phones now! All work with MTN chips in Ghana

Hope you did not try to run anysim 1.02? If so you apparently need to revirginize. You might also check that you did download BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH . The original instructions have been revised. If you follow to the letter it does work.
Which version of ITunes do you think is preferable, suppose I need to restore?
Also, do I need to keep the USB cable connected between the PC and Iphone during the whole process?

Just use the newest iTunes. You just need the USB cable connected during touchfree and one click activation (and iBrickr if you use that over WinSCP)
okay your old instructions worked for me. My iphone was jail"broken". then today i tried to change my carrier tag and i bricked my iphone. Then i restored it everything worked normally. Now when i try your new instructions it doesnt work??
where do i start if my iphone is already activated??
nevermind. some how it worked again.

When you say "activated" do you mean you got past the Activate in iTunes screen or do you mean activated with One Click activation?
If you've gotten past the Activate in iTunes screen, try going to jailbreakme.com in Safari and watch some magic happen :)
is it? doesn't WinSCP need to be run from the PC ?? If so, doesn't the iphone need to be connected to it?

14. Now download and run One Click Activation 1.1.1 (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=check_download&ufid=3864ECE15EECA07F&key=0d63fbae1ec16387115753abe31e7465f0320f8c) to get your phone activated in Windows.

Hi. I recently activated, jailbroke and unlocked my 1.1.1 native iPhone using these fabulous instructions. I now find that in order to make the iPhone work properly with MS Outlook, I may have to restore the phone using iTiunes. Can I restore to 1.1.1 or will I risk bricking my phone? If I do restore, do I have to do through the activate, jailbreak and unlock proccess again? Thanks!

I restored an activated, jail broken and anySIM'd iPhone and it worked fine. Just after the restore, I had to activate and jailbreak it again, but that was it. It didn't brick or anything.
A restore does not mess about with the baseband (anySIM does changes to that). It just restores the software.

I unlocked two phones using this method. First one took me about 3 hours. Second one 50 minutes. It works great once you fully get the process.
I'm using mine on Orange in the UK and everything works great, apart from Youtube, for which there is a fix elsewhere on the forum.
T-Mobile should be fine too.

I managed to get AnySIM 1.1 on my iPhone without using the PC by adding it's installer package.
1. Go into Safari on the iPhone.
2. Go to http://iphone.blurgle.ca/repo
This will download the AppTapp installer package.
3. Go into Installer, select "Sources".
4. Blurgle should in as a package. Select it, select "More Info" and install it.
5. Go back to the main "Sources" page and hit "Refresh".
6. Go to "Install", "All Packages" and "anySIM" should be present. Select it and install.
7. Once it's installed you will get anySIM in the main list of apps on the iPhone home screen. Tap it to run.
Note, this presumes you've got Installer v3. If you have v2 I'd recommend upgrading it to v3 (Go to Installer, then "Update" and select Installer v3).

Yep. Just skip the activation part and start with going to jailbreakme.com.
