Use new iphone 1.1.1 as ipod and Internet browser (Wi-Fi) ??

Hi everyone,
I just bought a new iphone that has a 1.1.1 frameware, and I have read so many stuff saying there is no ability to unlock this frameware yet. But my question is "Can I just activate it and use other features excluding calling service"??
Downgrading to framware 1.0.2 seems to be unconfirmed yet.
Can anyone confirm that the downgrade works or help in anyway.

I would really appreciate any help and guides.

Well...i still want to use the phone part but i am not in a hurry for that now.
But for now i need the other features (If possible).
