The Dev Team has now announced a 1.1.1 jailbreak method which allows for:
Downgrading to 1.0.2 (if necessary)
Preparing the iPhone (http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9341#) for a jailbroken update
Performing a software (http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9341#) update, leaving you with a jailbroken v1.1.1
Forcing v1.1.1 to mount read-write so you can access it
Installing SSH and BSD world
Activating with a Non-ATT SIM
Patching SpringBoard to allow third-party applications (http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9341#)
Clean-upThis does NOT allow you to unlock a 1.1.1 iPhone, and WILL NOT WORK ON AN UNLOCKED IPHONE. Again, if you have unlocked your iPhone, DO NOT DO THIS.

This isn't very easy nor fast, so if you can wait for an easier GUI method you can, but this does work

After reading what iPhone Elite has to say about iPhone Dev Team's performance and subsequent bricking if iPhones, I'm not going to touch anything until Nullriver puts up their own installer after evaluating the situation.

Here's a quite from iPhone Elite regarding iPhone Dev Team:

Want to know why your phones got bricked?

AnySIM and iUnlock were patched to make a routine exit with 0 (successful) to unlock the phone. Only problem was that that routine is NOT only called by NCK but rather by about six routines total. The other five didn't expect 00 to be there and were therefore spammed across your BB during upgrade. In short, the wrong bytes were patched and now you're all bricked. No, it wasn't Apple's fault. Rather than figure out how to fix this themselves, the iPhone Dev Team would rather work on jailbreaking the new 1.1.1 and keep accepting your donations. We want this fixed -- we want them to take responsibility for their bunk code.
Unfortunately if you want something done you've got to do it yourself. That's why we're here. We've got the 1.1.1 jailbreak and are actively trying to reverse the Dev Team's damage.

Im on v1.0.1.....can i upgrade to 1.1.1 and do this (without 1.0.2)?
