Need to throw out a disclaimer, some people are reporting issues, several people confirmed it works however. Do at your own risk :)

I would recommend doing a complete restore and taking it to apple for a replacement. Sounds like the phone is buggy. They will most likely give you a new one.

Never mind reboot fixed but still no wifi and music wont play out of the speakers, just stops playing.
I dont think I can change it because I already took it down there and I guess they logged my serial number in.

I'm slightly confused, why is everyone so upset about the update? Didn't we wait a while for it to finally come out? Are there problems with it, because I have had none since I updated...

I took it down there because my phone wouldnt restore due to the 1011 error.
And the guy hooked it up to the comp and he said I had all these third party apps and hacks on my phone.
Then he took the serial number from my phone and I guess logged it into the system so if I take it into another store they already know I tried to take it in.
When I try to restore it, it gets stuck at

I can unplug it and then do the apptapp thing to get it to the activation screen. But wont they know I messed with it by using app tapp?

You see, this is an example of blind fanboyism. One gets the feeling that with this individual and a few others on the site Apple could burn down their house, steal all their money and violate their relatives and they would still try and find a way to justify their actions.
Either that or they're shills. It's one of the two.

I agree with you. It has nothing to do with being a fanboy--there is simply not anything out there for me to waste my time on modding. the things that are out there now, like you said, were entertaining at best, but I like the phone as is. Now, that is to say I still would like to see cut and paste and the option o delete multiple emails at once, but for the most part, the iPhone in virgin state suits me just fine.

I don't really care that you "don't get" it. That's obvious enough.
What I don't get is your flagrant anti-mod behavior in general, as if since you don't find anything useful no one else should either. If people talking about modding or Apple's heavy handedness bother you so much, why is it so hard to just skip over those posts?

I really neeed help. I can get back to the yellow triangle, but after I restore to 1.0.2. and run apptapp, the yellow triangle will not go away.
I tried the instructions on nick true's blog as well but when i ran the iphoneinterface, it just kept restarting my phone over and over.

Sounds like you already tried the obvious stuff, and perhaps some of the not-so-obvious stuff too.
But since you are seeing the yellow triangle, I would imagine you have made at least some progress.
IIRC, I got stuck at the restore screen and just used iTunes to get back to 1.1.1 and just started the process over again. When the 1.0.2 restore works correctly via iTunes it takes about 5 minutes or so to update the iPhone. It will still end in an error, but if you get the error soon after it starts trying to update to 1.0.2 you probably have to start again.
I know this is obvious, but don't bother syncing in iTunes until you have it all sorted out. I went through 3 or 4 restores (without syncing) and when it was finally finished I was able to restore from my last backup (not the complete restore, just the restore of my settings whatnot).
Just keep trying!

so does the downgrade work without issue? I read that the baseband downgrade doesnt work. Any weird issues with downgrading to 1.0.2 and not downgrading the baseband?
ciaran00
09-30-2007, 11:36 AM
Yes,
Your baseband does not downgrade at the moment (there are folks looking into it).
This means you will have everything but the phone part working.
I am not sure of what that means for legitimate ATT sims, but for everything else, no phone...
Also, would doing this restore bb?
1.1.1 -> 1.0.2 (using known method)
1.0.2 -> 1.0.1 (iTunes shift click)
1.0.1 -> 1.0.2 (iTunes shift click)

I would wait till the baseband restore is verified and documented before trying it.... just to be safe. But I already have a working phone.
For the record, since I have seen confusion about this just about everywhere (including Nate True's blog):
You do not lose phone functionality if you had a locked phone on 1.1.1 that was upgraded to 1.0.2.
(And, yes, I deliberately wrote "upgraded." :2cool:)

Been following all the threads on this, here, hackint0sh.org, iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki, etc. Very exciting development and apparently the initial credit goes to somebody named Kmac who apparently got at least part of his info from a techie at Apple he was on the phone with ("apple phone support told me to put my phone in restore mode"). I find it ironic that this was the initial "trickle" source after all the effort Apple seemed to take to block 3PA's. Wondering if this was a "slip-up" by the Apple techie.
Regardless, it's a great development for those that love the 3PA's (myself included), but I find myself just a bit nervous to give this a shot just yet, after having jumped the gun the other day with the 1.1.1 upgrade. Certainly many of us were thinking that even if we upgraded to 1.1.1, we could always go back to 1.0.2 without much difficulty if that didn't work out; especially after those initial mistaken posts that we could.
My phone has been really boring the last few days, and I really want to try this as I'm mostly confident it does work after all the confirmations. I'm still just a bit nervous though. Tinman, you especially have earned a lot of credibility around here (IMHO), and that seems to give me the greatest level of confidence along with the DEV Team's blessing. I could care less about the Wi-FiTunes, the double-tap period space, and the other so-called Apple upgrades.
So, as soon as I can build up the nerve to do this, I'll be giving it a shot. Wish me well. I sure wish I had one of you that's done this successfully already sitting here next to me though. :tounge:
BTW, I have locked AT&T iPhone, previously modded with apptap and iBrickr, now currently running 1.1.1 and 2.4.3.1 iTunes, WindowsXP.

OK, with that setup it seems you should be good to go, assuming you meant 7.4.3.1 for iTunes.
If you are not going to upgrade to 1.0.2 right away, I suggest not updating iTunes any time in the near future (or ever, before seeing what ramifications it has). Also, I would secure the ROM update files in case Apple yanks them. Actually you should have them right now in:
"C:\Documents and Settings\your user account\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates"
The file needed to go back to 1.0.2 is: iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw, and it should be the exact same version of the file available for download--till Apple yanks or changes it. I did download it, but binary compared it to the file in the above folder--at they were identical.
Also, I have figured out why it might be important for anyone, with 3rd party apps or just jailbreaked for ringtones, that did not completely restore to 1.0.2 when going to 1.1.1 to downgrade:
Apple has deliberatly left existing existing files and folders that might have been added by jailbreak or 3rd party apps on the iPhone when updating to 1.1.1. This is in contrast to all previous restores (1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2) where these files were erased as part of the update.
It is my opinion that Apple left these files in place so that they could easily check if jailbreak or third-party apps were ever installed. There have been reports of Apple employees doing just that--all they do is plug in the iPhone and have a peak (apparently with some sort of checklist provided by Apple).
So if you are in this situation I would not ever let Apple look at your iPhone untill you have downgraded to 1.0.2, and then re-updated to 1.1.1. At that point, assuming you didn't actually unlock the phone too, there will be no forensic evidence of 3rd party apps.
Can't believe it has come to this.
BTW: I have no problems with the baseband being newer than it was when I previously had 1.0.2. Since it's unlikely that I will ever unlock the phone, I will definitely wait to see what the ramification are with installing it before doing anything. Worst case scenario I can update back to 1.1.1 if I need to take it into Apple for any reason (though I can't see why they could complain--yes I can, I believe they are capable of anything now).

WiFi works just fine. Everything works fine--certainly better than 1.1.1. Ironically I think it was the guy who discovered this trick, KMAP, who had trouble with WiFi.
So assuming, besides just locking out unlocks, the baseband is improved in the 1.1.1 update it might make sense to just leave it.
This in no way means that the devs won't figure out how to downgrade the baseband--I have little doubt that they will. But I believe that is of more concern to people who unlocked, and not just jailbreaked.

Yes, I meant 7.4.3.1...typo. I've set my iTunes to NOT automatically check for updates. And I won't update ANYTHING "rashly" as I did this last time. I've learned my lesson.
I've also downloaded and saved on my desktop the ROM update file and I'm aware of where it also resides in my iPhone Software Updates directory. I also expect Apple might yank them. I too compared the downloaded file to the one in my Update directory, just to be sure.
And yes, I suspected there might be some residual files left over on my phone if I did not first completely restore to 1.0.2 before "downgrading" to 1.1.1. Therefore I did. Actually, it was somewhat due to that "fear factor" that I rushed to completely restore to 1.0.2, then "downgrade" to 1.1.1.
I am just a bit unclear still, about some reports of this process ending up with the Activation screen showing on the iPhone and confusion about what to do at that point.

Hmmm, the only reports I have heard about that were people that already had that problem after updating to 1.1.1 (with a locked phone or not--some people got hosed by the update even though they didn't have locked phones). Do you know of any confirmed reports of people that do not fit into that category getting that message after going to 1.0.2?

And IMO, that's just fine for you. As long as you don't come on here and give me crap for liking the modifications to my phone. I use the NES app every day. I use Stumbler every day. I use Sketches quite often. I love the custom themes that are out. And that's just fine for me.

I reverted with iTunes 7.4.3.1, which is the most current version right now. If another iTunes update comes out I would definitely hold off installing it till its ramifications are known.

One more question. I read that after doing this, you can also go back and upgrade to 1.1.1 if you want to or need to for some reason. But, can you also restore to 1.0.2 again, should you wish to remove your jailbreaking and 3PA's? In otherwords, to have a "clean slate" with 1.0.2? Just curious.

Yes and yes. You can go back to 1.1.1, and iTunes will even ask you to do it. ;)
After going back to 1.1.1 you can again go back to 1.0.2.

Simply use iASign or whatever you use to bypass activation.
ye its says simply but i have prblem to do that, everything went well like its say below - Thanks to great finds by members, WE ARE NOW ABLE TO DOWNGRADE OUR PHONES!!!! I just wanted to make a simple guide for people with PC's to follow
Start iTunes and plug in your 1.1.1 phone
In 1.1.1, hold Power and Home buttons and count 10 seconds (your phone will turn off, just keep counting), release the power button but continue to hold the home button until your phone is recognized by iTunes. (phone screen will be blank)
A message will pop up and ask you to restore your iPhone. Holding down the SHIFT key, click on the restore button. Navigate to your 1.0.2 software
(http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....8_Restore.ipsw (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-3823.20070821.vormd/iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw))
Begin restoring...
When it's done, you will get an ERROR, click OK. Your phone should show a yellow triangle. Leave iTunes running and run AppTap.
AppTap might encounter an error as well, however, it will bring your phone to the Activation screen. Once again, start iTunes, ignore all messages from it, and run AppTap. Now it will jailbreak your phone and install Installer. (You may have to retsart your PC after arriving at the activation screen if iTunes isn't recognizing your phone)
Simply use iASign or whatever you use to bypass activation.
Your phone is now back to 1.0.2.
(I am using iTunes 7.4.3.1)
WI-FI, calls, everything fully functional!
-------------------but i still have problem with that some one please help - Simply use iASign or whatever you use to bypass activation

Tinman: This above is what I was referring to in my earlier post. The mention of the "Activation screen". And I have NO clue what iASign is.

I didn't need to do that at all. Just like during any restore the iPhone starts out unactivated. But within a minute or two--while connected to iTunes--it automatically reactivates.
BTW: I originally thought your message was about the mismatched SIM message. The activate message, should you get it, is much more easier to get rid of.

This downgrade does not help you if you unlocked.
If you have an ATT locked iphone with 1.1.1 and want to go to 1.0.2 this will work.
Activation is no big deal. Just dock it and open itunes. It will activate itself.
Man it looks so nice again :) 5 item dock, only 8 icons, launcher, black backgroun, black dock and no text under my icons. Clean, simple and pretty.

There's no point in continuing to try if your phone was unlocked. At this point you will have to wait till there is a 1.1.1 unlock available or a baseband downgrader, which according to what I just read is going to be pretty soon.

If you have an unlocked phone you must wait for the baseband downgrader. For now you are still stuck.
This downgrade only works currently for LOCKED phones.

You will need to jailbreak your phone. Read the instructions and where it says to install apptapp to jailbreak you can probably use ibrikr although I haven't tested.

I wasn't able to use iBrickr instead of AppTapp. However once AppTapp does it's thing iBrickr works as usual.

yeah that's what I'm asking. It sounded like you jailbreaked first then running right you ran appinstaller or ibrickr. It sounds like you just consolidated the steps. I just want to make sure I have this right before I make an attempt at it is all. There being quite a few posts about method in this that is.
also I know some people are reporting the phone not working but it appears this only is the unlocked phones, mine is a locked AT&T iPhone so I shouldn't have any problems with this right?

so I need to download apptapp on to my computer first to make this work? Then run ibrckr after everything is fully functional? Also using apptap and ibrckr won't interfere with each other when both are installed at once?

You can run both with no issues.
In this downgrade method apptapp doesn't get installed when you initially jailbreak so if you wish to use it you must install again, otherwise just use it to jailbreak and then run ibrikr.

when downgrading and restoring to 1.0.2, do you lose all your data on the phone and restore it to "out of the box" state? (i.e. will i lose my phone numbers, music, photos, etc?)
main reason i want to do this is to get back custom ringtones i had with 1.0.2. This still works right?
shawnhimself
09-30-2007, 06:54 PM
Yeah just use AppTapp to jailbreak the phone, then you can get rid of it and use iBrickr if you like.
This process is just like a regular restore, so whatever you have synched with iTunes will be there when you restore.
tonyj81

and to get rid of apptap do you do that through your of or off the phone?

So the yellow triangle indicates you've made progress! This is a 1.0.2 symbol. Go here:
http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Downgrade_from_1.1.1_to_1.0.2
And check out the Unlocking forum @ hackint0sh. It will help you!
