I thought I read in this forum that it was now possible to make ringtones from Itunes with the recent (9/27) update. I've tried a search but nothing shows up. Was I wrong? My phone is still locked and in original state.

As of now, the non-modding apps that were able to load homemade ringtones into iPhone are not working anymore. I bet somebody smart will find a way around it, but not at this time.

You CAN make ringtones in itunes, but you have to pay for them.
See the video here (1/2 way thru for details)
http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/softwareupdate_large.html

In the latest version of itunes there is a bell by the song indicating that you can make a ringtone of that song.

Click on bell, this brings up the itunes ringtone maker software. You can pick any 30-seconds of the song to make a ringtone, including fading in and out.
Then click buy.

I just don't agree with having to pay for ringtones.
