I have a question and i apologize ahead of time, I was already a pre existing member when i bought the iphone and all i did was purchase the 20 unlimited internet 200 message data plan. I hardly ever use edge and i need more txt messages. Instead of upgrading to the 30 data plan can i get off of the data plan and just go to a regular txt messaging plan thanks in advance

No...if you need more messages you will just have to upgrade the messaging package while maintaining the $20 for edge.

I'm sure that somebody smarter than me will come along but I would think that you would cripple your phone with out a data plan?

I suppose that you already know that AT&T offers an unlimited AT&T to AT&T text plan for only $5 as we all a totally unlimited plan for $19.99?

You would have terribly high bills without the iphone data plan. I believe I had 15,000 kbs transfered last month. At $.01/kb that would be $150.

that would be crazy but i just wish there was a way around it...i never use edge and 30 a month is alot in my opinion when i dont use edge. I just need about 1k messages and i would be good. hmm guess i will just have to upgrade, but how come you have to have a data plan?

You have to have one of the iPhone data plans to get the phone activated. If you could get the data plan removed, then the phone would constantly be checking on the at&t network to update the weather and stock widgets. Every time it accessed the network, you would be paying charges.

That is a very good point. But once again those are the two features on the phone that i dont use lol and im on wifi almost everytime i touch my phone anyways so it would go through wifi. And my phone is activated

Uh you say you dont use edge now....just wait till you start using the iphone, i bet you'll be using it a lot once you learn about how amazing the browser is. The weather widget is cool, every now and then its nice to just have a gadget with the weather on there to see if you can make plans for a canceled sports practice because of rain.

Though i do agree with you on stocks, its kinda pointless, probably just on there to attract business users or something.

lol i dont know if i said somewhere that i dont use my iphone...im a very heavy iphone user ive had it 5 days after it came out. I agree the browser is amazing and for the first week the weather widget was cool. but there are better iphone oriented weather sites that are better than it. I know i dont use egde. I live in a bad "edge area" so i avoid it at all cost i have wifi at my house and at school so i rarely surf safari outside these locations

When i first got my other full web phone ( blackjack) it would be as much as $10 a minute for the internet without a data plan. I do hope they lower the price for the plans esp the unlimited txt. Right now I have the $30 plan but before this phone I had unlimited txt for $20 which I miss as now I hAve to watch my txts.

Definitely back this up. The texting part is way overpriced, look at t-mobile. Or Sprint (what im on now). It might go down with the next phone. I dont know how thats going to work. If its going to be 3G on the next generation, will the plan be the same? or are they seriously going to update to 3g in firmware? Because then the battery will be useless. They said there's no need to update the physical body of it...so are we stuck with EDGE? (i could care less, 3G is just another add on to me)
