My wife has an iTrip and just clicks no when it wants to put the iphone in airplane mode. When she get a call the song fades out. When the call ends the music fades back in.

We do get some of that strange cellular noise (like when your cellphone is by a computer speaker). But it is not as often and not as bad as I thought it would be.

Exactly which one do you have? I will get it.

I tried these 3 car stereo/FM transmitters w/ my iPhone recently (1.0.2 update installed):

1. Belkin TuneBase FM - First and foremost, this unit requires the "iPod" to display the FM station number you wish to assign. Since the iPhone does not recognize the accessory, it is incapable of displaying the necessary tuning information. The default 88.1 setting, nonetheless, has problems w/ the iPhone's phone frequencies, those loud pops of feedback through the speakers.

2. DLO TransPod - This unit suffers the phone frequency feedback regardless of which radio frequency is selected.

3. MacAlly FMCup - This cup holder FM transmitter suffers as well from phone frequency feedback.

With all 3 units, the only manner in which the iPhone's music can play properly without feedback is employing the Airplane Mode. Of course, phone calling/receiving features no longer operate. In my opinion, that is too severe a penalty to be acceptable; just as well have an iPod.

My only possible workaround theory is to use FM transmitter units which do not include power charging features. The Griffin iTrip is just such an example, which previous posts give positive reviews. All 3 units I referred above include the car charging feature. Perhaps the power/electrical charge increases the phone feedback. But who knows?
