Steve is giving a $100 rebate to ALL iPhone customers for store credit on any Apple product! I think that is very good of them. Read the entire letter because Apple isn't bad after all (PS I never thought they were bad).

I'll thank Steve for stepping up and doing something for the Early Adopters in this situation.

However, I won't forgive and forget on this one... Steve showed his true colors by his actions re: the Price Cut. Furthermore, anyone that thinks Steve would have still offered the credit if it hadn't been for the Press and Stock hits, is foolish, or delusional. I'm sure all the potential Credit Card chargebacks (which are now null and void) didn't effect his thinking at all either :P

Steve tried to pull a fast one, got his hand slapped, and is trying his hardest to get out of Time Out.

awesome, but now we get to wonder exactly what constitues 'or any other consideration' (warranty repairs/replacements) and how they'll determine who qualifies (e.g. the original buyer able to present proof of purchase such as a receipt, or the original at&t account holder on which the iphone was activated). no matter what, this gesture is huge in the eyes of early adopters of not just the iphone but past and future apple products. if/when i get mine, i know exactly what it will go towards---leopard upgrade.

i believe this to be a perfect, simple solution. early adopters should have to pay a little more for having the product first, just not 1.667 times more.

i hope all the a-holes who were so high and mighty and said "that's the price of early adopting" refuse their discounts.

And you know what-- this will probably increase their sales-- because I am sure many people will actually apply that 100 dollar credit towards purchases OVER 100 dollars....

Read my prior post. I will either NOT take the store credit or donate it to a local charity. I dont want "something for nothing" and dont expect "something for nothing" I would find it greedy if i actually went to the store and took the card for my own use because I have a lot of posts saying I was fine with the price cut.

It goes to show you that if you come together as a team on something anything can happen, the thousands of hate mails and forums on this subject is what turned this around, its not the $200 doillars that matters its the principal of the matter, and my $100 dollar rebate will go toward a new iMac which of yesterday I wouldnt support a company like this, my mind has changed, I applaud you Steve for doing the right thing and taking the burn away..

It was about time Apple woke up and did something but I am NOT satisfied, especially by the tone of this letter! Who do you think you are S. Jobs? Do you think we're fools? The way he talks to us makes me angry.

You know that conspiracy theorist would say that this was Steve's master plan. Slash prices, get more publicity for the iPhone (just get the spelling right), then rebate. All leading to more iPhone sales to their early base.

Let's see that next iPhone just dropped to... $299?

Smart move by apple, they appease most the people they have "wronged" and they still make off with all your money (they're not really losing anything, you have to spend the $100 with them.)

I think it IS our place to make sure that these companies treat their customers right or pay the price. Maybe this was Steve's idea but judging by his comments- I think some other people at Apple must have convinced him that this was the right thing to do. Either way, Apple came through. And maybe Steve really does think that they need to "do a better job at taking care of our early customers." I won't hold it against them. But if they do something like this again, they know what the response will be like. (I'm not saying they can't lower the prices, etc-- but they need to avoid insults to their loyal customers).

And people who stood up to argue that we were not being treated right by apple-- we should be thanked by those iPhone users who thought we were over-reacting. I'm sure they'll take the $100. They deserve it like the rest of us. and they SHOULD TAKE IT. They were mistreated even if they did not mind or realize it.

For all those who think it's whining and complaining when we are being ripped off please feel free to send me your credit for the Apple store,
it's complaining of an unfairness that will get you anywhere. Even if you don't get anything from it, in America you can have freedom of speech which includes whining and complaining. These forums are for discussion for every side of opinion not just mine, not just yours, but everyone has the right to discuss this whether you call it complaining, or BS, or whining. This forum wouldn't be so great if we only had one sided opinions, but for God sakes don't put people down for expressing and discussing iphones. Thats why we're here.

Trust me I do. Ok I publicly apologize for the SHUT UP already post! That was uncalled for. I just got overly excited about an end to the hundreds of posts of people crying about not getting their money. Bring up valid points, reasons why you feel screwed. But this "Apple OWE me because of bla bla bla" with nothing to really back it up just got tired.

So for everyone I upset with that first real nasty bash I'm sorry. I'm just beside myself with joy that this can finally be over

Not certain what I'm more annoyed about - the fact it only came after uproar or the fact I ordered and paid for a 160G Classic iPod yesterday. Its in the air now so too late to cancel (could take it back for a refund unopened and save $100 by rebuying the same day..). Its a good job I'm an Apple user and always need something new. Steve is clever here give the rebate and, I garentee most loyal Apple users will spend more than that when they use it

I know what you're saying, but from day one the high percentage of iMoaners on these forums has been stifling otherwise healthy discussion.

Some people are just never happy - and seem to be the ones that like to post the most!

It gets old really quickly - I actually stayed away from here for weeks because it's tiring to have to deal with all of the negativity day after day.

Freedom of speech is great - but constant whining and moaning is not a healthy use of the freedom.

Hey if it wasn't DIRECTLY because of the iMoaners their would be NO $100 credit.

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.

If you dont want to be accused of being an iMoaner I will be happy to spend your $100 store credit. So you can continue to shut up. ;)

I think this is a great move by Steve and Apple and is redemption IMO. We all knew a price drop was coming but never could have forseen it this soon and this drastic. I work for a certain telecom and I was even shocked.

I expected between a $50 and $75 price drop so $100 is just about perfect. It really comes down to principle and the money is not the issue.

This is the part that did it for me...

Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.

That is the Apple I know.

The funniest part is that as soon as I bragged to my gf that I was getting $100 back she said I should use it to buy her a Nano or iPod Touch....

Well, considering she is the wonderful person who bought me my iPhone I think it is the least I can do.

Yes but they are losing in what we use the $100 for, with their profit margin they probably aren't losing much but add it all up with all the iphones already sold before this and Steve is losing a small chunk of change because of this.

I am happy Apple is making this move, I think it shows that contrary to what so many people here accused Apple of (not caring about their customers, being a big evil corporation, etc.) that the company is in fact a solid "people" organization.

I didn't expect Apple to do this, but I will take advantage of their offer and further support them as I pick up my new iPod Touch for my girlfriend next week.

I hope this silences the "Apple sucks" crowd for at least a week... or until the next update comes out and they find 20 more things to endlessly complain about.

not really! Now he's forcing people to spent more money on other products! Well not forcing but enticing us to spend money we all probably would not have spent! Trust me, if he didnt think this was going to benefit apple he wouldn't have done it! Its a win/win, especially for apple!

I hope this silences the "Apple sucks" crowd for at least a week... or until the next update comes out and they find 20 more things to endlessly complain about.

now you see why we held apple to different standards than other companies -- which was why we were upset in the first place. Motorola or any PC maker would never step up to fix a wrong like this... That's why they are APPLE, and they are different from every other PC maker.

Mmmm, so they get you to spend $100 of credit at their stores, which would equate to maybe $20 of actual cost to them, and they get to count the sales of all of those new iPods people will splash their credits on...

You must have money to burn.
People get upset and we should be able to discuss it.
If someone wrongs you your opinion for them changes, why is this any different. My opinion of Apple did and has changed but that doesn't mean we can change our opinion again before the hundreds and thousands of people and fluctuate how we feel. If the person that wrongs you apologizes then your opinion will once again change. Won't it? At least it should. Or should we stay mad forever even when someone's trying to make up for it?
Opinions fluctuate on actions.

It's not WIN-WIN.... It's WIN-WIN-WIN ;-) any office fans out there?

And yes, I am getting the feeling that the next iPhone is on the horizon very soon--- maybe even before the holidays... But I'm fine with that-- Let the next model come out with 3G (no coverage where I live) and with 16GB (I'm OK with 8gb and my 40gb ipod); I won't feel hurt when the current model gets another price cut.... The next model will be a hardware upgrade--- we will all still be waiting for the software upgrade-- and let's face it- that why we bought the iphone to begin with.

OUTSTANDING!! Precisely what was needed (the $100 credit AND the letter of apology) to calm the restless throngs. I was not exactly angry over the price reduction, but was somewhat disappointed. I am not a long-time Apple user like I'm sure many if not most of you are, but rather a first-timer. Being a first-time Apple customer and really wanting to jump on the bandwagon for more future entries into the Apple world (iMac was (now is again) next on my list, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that after this event. With the great PR move on Apple's part, my confidence is restored as I'm sure it is for many other "newbies". It's all about perception and reputation.

Thanks for listening, Steve and Apple. kudos :laugh2:

Very nice, let's see if/how they follow through with this.

Reading some of the responses here, I don't think a lot of people really "got it" in understanding why it was a big deal in the first place, and why it's a bigger deal what the open letter signifies. It wasn't just about $100 or $200, the exact numbers were only a part of it. More importantly it's about *respecting* (ironic that he chose to play "Respect" during the show) your customers, and not just your average customers, but those most loyal and faithful to you. Yesterday's announcement was pure and simple a slap in the face, an open acknowledgment on a worldwide forum that 800,000ish of Apple's biggest fans had simply been price gouged, without even a hint of regret. People were laughing at us, and for good reason. It doesn't matter whether we as early adopters "should have known better" as I've seen/heard a dozen times; we accepted the risks of buying new tech on good faith - and all we asked for in return is some of that same good faith from the company we trusted. In this day and age, good faith is something you can't just buy and sell, it has to be earned, and is pretty tough to come by from big corporations.

While the sting of the slap still hurts, it's nice to see an actual apology in the tone of the letter, which to me was in many ways more important than the money. I believe this kind of open letter for the world to see, and open acknowledgment of a mistake, is as unprecedented as the price cut itself was. Cynics will say it's just a smooth way to cover their tracks so they can prime us to buy more stuff. Maybe so, but it's still much better than the alternative of them saying or doing nothing. At the very least tonight when I get home I'll be able to look at the Apple logo on my iMac without cringing

It was about time Apple woke up and did something but I am NOT satisfied, especially by the tone of this letter! Who do you think you are S. Jobs? Do you think we're fools? The way he talks to us makes me angry.

"This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon."

NO, this is NOT the way it is!! Prices go down, but not after 60 days.

Jobs did every customer who was not taken care of and compensated... I would quote that part but I'm on my iPhone :( (copy and paste would be nice right now) but I assume he means if you paid the higher price and you didn't get any money back already then you will get the $100 credit.

My feelings exactly. This wasn't about money so much as it was about taking advantage of your most faithful and trusted customers. It was Apple's intention to lower the price two months later from the get-go, and it was dishonest of them to purposely way overcharge us on iDay knowing that because we trust Apple, we would buy it anyway.

It's too bad for Apple at any rate, because they will no longer achieve the same amount of support on the opening day of a new product. Once trust is gone, it's really hard to get it back. Everyone who bought an iPhone on iDay will definitely be more hesitant on the next iDay for iPhone V2.

I quote Steve, "I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season."

Ok Steve, but the question remains, why is NOW the right time to lower the price? Why not June 29th? You mention how technology is a "bumpy road" and we understand that production price goes down with time, but not in 8 or 9 weeks. You conned us on June 29th to pay WAY more money than we had to, and it was simply because you knew we would buy it, and that we would assume that you wouldn't lower the price for at least half a year, and certainly not by that much.

I do appreciate the apology and the money. But I really think that first of all, you should have offered the phone at $399 from day 1. And if you really couldn't do that (which I really think you could have), then you should have been ready with this offer at your keynote. You should have guessed there would be such a strong opposition from your faithful customers who took a chance on you. I'm surprised that you were surprised by this.

So wait are we now receiving $100 on top of the $200 we can already get from Cingular if we purchased within 14 days or what? I know this was probably already asked but I have to leave the house in a couple of minutes and don't have time to search.

Thanks

No, if you get the $200, they are not going to give the voucher. But I am not sure how they will weed those out. We'll see.

Steve is giving a $100 rebate to ALL iPhone customers for store credit on any Apple product! I think that is very good of them. Read the entire letter because Apple isn't bad after all (PS I never thought they were bad).

This seems fair, good for Apple too.. they are only paying like $40 for this, while you are "getting" $100. I like it. Good for Apple (though it sure would have been nice if Jobs announced it when announcing the price cut!).

I have to be honest and say when I first heard about the price drop, I was disappointed in Apple but not really angry. This, to me, shows that Apple truly does listen to it's customers. Very classy act, in my humble opinion. I wasn't expecting a dime and now I'm getting $100 back in credit. Thanks to all who voiced their opinions. Without you, I doubt anything would've been done. Cheers !!

On one hand I agree, but am equally impressed that he quickly admitted he erred and rectified it. He screwed up, admitted it -- pretty dang classy move. I'm not cynical enough to believe they floated it as a trial baloon to test the level of outrage (read that elsewhere). I'm satisfied they miscalculated and had guts enough to admit they erred. Pretty damn refreshing in these days and times I think. He's always given me the impression he was on our side and wanted to make cool stuff that both of us would enjoy. I like the guy and don't mind admitting it. Today reinforces it.

Ok, $100 is fair enough. I am still not 100% satisfied in principle, but it is fair enough that I will remain as an Apple customer.

I need to give a pad to the shoulder to all of us who voiced our concerns since yesterday. I do believe that due to the pressure from all of us (as consumers), Steve Jobs swollows his words back from yesterday and now agrees to do something for us early adapters.

If we were not standing together to voice ourselves since, I doubt Steve Jobs would have done the same.

Pretty shrewed if you ask me. Apple gets to "save face", we customers now get some satisfaction, AND (here's the smart part) now there is going to be an enormous influx of traffic into Apple stores! Wow - marketing professionals all over the world should be bowing in homage :-)

Plus, this will end up costing Apple less in the long run than having to contest every single credit card company claim that their customers are filing. Apple gets to spend the manufacturing equivalent of $100 (variable per product) as opposed to losing $200 real dollars for every iPhone sold prior to yesterday. Truly a win/win scenario. I'm proud of you, Steve :-)

Now, aren't all of you Apple stock sellers feeling pretty foolish about now?

It also cracks me up to see the wild mood swings... from "APPLE SUCKS, I'M NEVER BUYING ANOTHER APPLE PRODUCT!!!11!!" to after this announcement, "YEAH! Steve Jobs!!! You're the man!!!".

I'm glad I don't suffer from these wild and emotional fluctuation's, especially when they're painfully displayed in public before hundreds of thousands of people.

We should all ask ourselves....WWJD, LMAO :)

now that that's out of the way, can the iMoaners please shut up!

If those iMoaners had no standing, high and mighty Mr. Jobs wouldn't have done a 180 on this topic so quickly. His greedier than usual move blew up in his face and we forced him to eat his words and face reality. It's those who kept saying that the price drop was normal who should be embarrassed.

Of course we expect all of you nay sayers not to get the credit.

Honestly, this is simply a gesture to get the whiners to shutup. Just watch. The fine print will indicate it's good only on certain items. And we'll most likely not be able to combine certs.

It just goes to show you that the will of the vocal get the cred. For, honestly, for every complaint received, the rule of thumb is there are thousands more that feel the same way, but did not send in. In other words, in the land of direct marketing, if you send out 100 direct mail pieces, if you get 1.5 responses, that's considered a success!

I'm sure when Steve saw the mountain of complaints (honestly, who here believes he read EVERY single one of them??? LOL!), he knew that there were ten, may 100, fold more that felt the same way.

This was a totally political move to save face. If he had any notion there'd be such a backlash, don't you think he would have offered up the credit after announcing the price drop? I think Steve overestimated the fervor of our zeal.

Maybe some of us overreacted. I can say the same of you of the lemming persuasion who told us complainers to suck it up. Now, you get to benefit from those of us who complained. I think you should send your coupons to me, so I can get that desktop I've been drooling over! :tounge:

I have gotten store credit from Apple before and was very unhappy about it. I can't remember exactly what the circumstances were at the time but it had to do it an iPod and lawsuit a few years back. Anyhow, the store credit comes with stipluations!!!

I was not allowed to use the credit to go towards iTunes!! In fine print on the credit letter, it said that the user could not redeem credit towards iTunes/iTunes gift cards. What else is someone going to actually use the credit for besides possibly another set of ear buds or a case?? I don't need yet another iPod, I obviously own the iPhone already, or I wouldn't have the credit.

I just hope that when the store credit is actually issued, we'll all be able to buy some tunes with it!

Oh, give me a break! You want a zoom on a 2 megapixel camera. The only thing you would get is a digital zoom, and on a two megapixel camera it would look terrible. If you want a zoom buy a quality camera with an OPTICAL zoom, or a 6-8 megapixel camera and then the digital zoom would be usable. The camera in the iPhone does a great job, don't cripple it with a stupid digital zoom. (With an optical zoom, the phone could not be as thin as it is, and you all would be complaining about that!)

If the whinners want to take credit for the 100 dollars, by all means , the credit is yours, but theres something annoying and childish about a whinner or complainer, someone who cant flow with the ebbs of life and must whail and gnash and try to make everyone around him miserable. Maybe daddy Steve just wanted to shut up his ungrateful children and stick a pacifier in thier imouth, so he can watch the football game in peace lol.

This is a very serious time for us - the consumer. It's clear Steve understands that he was too aggressive and forgot the heart of the apple consumor. It's also clear that he is in fact different from other CEO's and made it right. It's up to us now to be gracious and welcome the fact that a large corporation did the right thing. We CANNOT continue to whine and complain or else we'll be sedning a message to corporations that "making it right" is not the right thing to do. The responsibility lies with us now. I support Steve and Apple 100%.

I was very vocal about my displeasure about the rapid price drop. I think what Jobs did was a good move. What many critics of those of us complained fail to realize is that your consumer loyalty is a VERY valuable commodity and is the basis for why investors will invest in a company. This asset (YOU) when damaged affects how Wallstreet perceived the company. Many other company would gladly pay you hundreds of dollars to get your goodwill.

Continue to complain if you feel harmed but never sell your loyalty cheaply. Apple executives tampered with their most valuable asset and it will take some time to repair. I still like Apple and I still think their products are exciting, but it will take some time before I am a first adopter again. With that, I applaud those of you who did not simply take this as a market condition and voiced your opinion. This $100 could partly go for the Leopard upgrade!

It is the whiners who give the best insight to a company that is paying attention. I do not want to continue flogging Apple but to thank those who felt taken.

Easy. Get the Shure MPA adapter and use it with a set of good headphones (like Sennheiser). If you are unfamiliar with canal phones (or iems - inner ear monitors) check out Etymotic, Shure, Ultimate Ears, Westone, etc. They offer a totally different fit than earbuds and most sound superb. I don't, however, recommend the Shure E2c for the iPhone. For the money, there are much better sounding iems.

I mean I'm a gadget person and I realize especially in the electronic market prices do come down within time but give me a break. I wasn't one of the first on launch day to get the iPhone but I did get it on 7/25. Granted $100 is awesome and I would gladly accept it but instead of getting Apple credit how about $100 that I can do what ever I want with it. We're still subject to spending the money and giving it right back to Apple. Having this happen I cannot guarantee that I will be one of the first people anymore to rush out and get an Apple product anymore given the prior incident that has occured.

I'm so glad when I went to the Apple store they were sold out of MacBook Pros becuase I was sold on it. And I doubt I will go back to get one unless I get the full $200+9% tax back, plain and simple. My real only hope is that I can get the $200 from Amex.

Apple didn't HAVE TO DO anything. The fact that you're getting $100 worth of free swag for just buying a cell phone is a pretty decent deal, IMO.

I swear, some people will find a way to complain about ANYTHING.

Thanks J-Sauce, that's awesome - I guess the question then becomes what earphones plug into the adapter? Anything Shure?

It will work with any set of 3.5mm stereo headphones

Steve Jobs and the Apple crew are folks with great business ethics! This has been the main reason I've continued to use Apple's products (which are ahead of the curve in the industry) the past 10 years. The iPhone is a phenomenon to say the least, and since nothing like this incredible product has ever enter the market...other potential iPhone users needs to be able to get a hold of one, too! The price drop at this time is the right decision! The $100 rebate to ALL iPhone customers is just a by-product that proves my point. Great move, Steve!

Yawn. Both sides are pretty friggin' lame. There are no right answers or solutions to this. It just goes to show you that the whiners are going to balk at anything and the fanbutts are going to tow the line come hell or high water.

To be perfectly honest, I've been into Apple and their products since the early 80's. I've had a love-hate relationship with the company from day one. Love to hate them, hate to love them.

Everytime I bought something new and awesome, within three months something newer and awesomer would come out. Oh, yeah, and CHEAPER! Ugh! Would totally piss me off and I'd swear off Apple for good. This happened with the Mac Plus, the Quadra 800, the Mac Mini and now the iPhone. Whatevuh!!!!

When iPhone II comes, will I jump on it? I'll try not to. But when my bleeding edge buddies start showing me all the cool things it can do, I'll crumble and snag one a few weeks later. Then, I'll probably have my still-beating heart ripped out of my chest...AGAIN by Jobs. But, what the hell. That's life.

Frankly, I wish all the whining would stop. And, especially, all you lemmings telling the whiners to shutup...just friggin' shut up yerselves!!!!

I think I need another ****tail. Meh!

He didn't have to do it. But why do you think he made this unprecedented move? It was to compensate for the unprecedented price decrease that turned into a PR fiasco.

no honestly it was to show current apple customers and loyalists that it wasnt anything personal it was business. its only a PR nightmare because of the types of people who are apple fanboys. whiny nerds who have nothing better to do, plain and simple. the type of people who literally camped out for this thing they wanted it so bad ,now they bash apple because the price drops for xmas. they didnt ask you to buy on iday, they didnt ask you to buy 15 days ago . it happens , get over it.

Yes I too got screwed by apple. No I will not travel 30 miles x2 to get a store credit. What do they have that I want? With that said; ATT is the looser. They really got screwed by Jobs. Kinda has a ring. ATT is caught in the middle. Those who bought the phone from then do not get the traditional 30 day return policy. They will tell you to take your phone to the Apple store. I think ATT should be concerned about it's customer relations. How can ATT do damage control so that Apple is the bad guy and not Apple and ATT. They can quit selling the product and only be the wireless provider. They also could make a good will jesture for those getting the Apple credit to get an ATT credit on the wireless bill.
By the way saturday when I went to ATT I talked to a woman that bought 2 phones after I bought mine. She received $400. I went to that Apple store and they told me they do not give refunds or store credits and to see Apple's website for details. She bought here phone on 8-16, I bought mine on 8-11.

I don't think that Apple has announced the details of the credit yet.
I'm sure it'll be plastered all over the place when they do.
But just to reiterate, for all of those who don't want to accept theirs for whatever reason, I would be happy to take them off your hands.
All your credits are belong to me! :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

well i think its understandable that people would be upset by such a sudden and drastic price cut. i do not however think its understandable for people to CONTINUE to belittle Steve Jobs and Apple after they have promised a 100 dollar store credit. I mean come on! that right there is the epitome of a compromise. They acknowledged that you feel upset and are willing to do something about it. You people who are still complaining are very ungracious. You need to get over it because there is seriously so much more to worry about in the world than a measley 200 dollars that you agreed to pay when you first got the iPhone. People are starving in the world and dying everyday because of famine and drought and disease. People are enduring emotional heartache from deaths in the family or losing a lover. People are being mocked and ridiculed in school just because they don't fit the norm. What have we got to complain about? We had enough money to buy a ridiculously priced gadget and then when the dropped the price and we complained, they gave us a store credit. You know If there were a way for Apple to apply the 100 dollars to a charitable organization like habitat for humanity or st. judes, i'd gladly let it go. and maybe if more people would do the same it could actually make a tremendous difference. I figure however that they are only going to use it toward product purchases but still. could you imagine? i mean like 600thousand people had an iphone before the price drop. that would be 60 million dollars to help those who probably didn't get to stand in line on iDay. wow. who knew i was going to get all humanitarian on myself. I feel guilty now. :frown:

i was thinking what if the $100 of store credit is a trap, they problably are going to say u have to update ur iphone to get the store credit and when u do update the iphone, all the applications like ibrickr and other ones will probably stop working, my guess after u update itunes will ask for problably information to fill in so u can get the $100...:gasp:

I left my troll spray at home. Will you just leave on your own?

The people have spoken. Right or wrong, you don't piss off your most ardent supporters. While there may be a fuzzy gray line on how soon is too soon and how much is too much for a price cut, Apple clearly went too far. The technology makers now have a base line. 33% in 2 months is too much too soon. Period.

This is interesting. Your preoccupation about being able to 'afford' an iPhone and your preoccupation with its price reveals more than you think. Being frugal is a better indicator of affluence. Your status-obsession and feigned indifference to price, as well as your poor grammar, says the opposite about you.

Steve is giving a $100 rebate to ALL iPhone customers for store credit on any Apple product! I think that is very good of them. Read the entire letter because Apple isn't bad after all (PS I never thought they were bad).

Sir, you should not feel guilty at all. Your post is one of the most intelligent I have seen, through out this whole ordeal. You spoke volumes of knowledge in your writing, and I commend you for it!!! I just want to add one current tragic situation going on, that you forgot to mention. Stop The Genocide in Darfur. I think what we all could do is, use our 100.00$ store credit (that we wouldn't of had anyway) at the Apple store to buy what we want. We then could take 100.00 out of our pocket, and donate it to the charity of one's choosing.

I strongly feel that, all the people in this forum who flamed other members, for speaking out (against Apple), should most certainly, donate their 100.00 (store credit) to a charity of their choosing. How could they feel good about their selves, walking around with their new Apple product, minus 100.00, that everyone else (excluding them), fought for??? They lashed out at people, who were displeased with the sudden price drop. I say, put your money where your mouth is, spend that 100.00 (store credit) that "WE" fought for, at the Apple Store. Then, since you thought Apple was right, and shouldn't have given any consideration to early adapters, donate 100.00 (out of your pocket) to the charity of your choice. You can then feel good about yourself, for standing by your word. Don't just go buy your girlfriend an iPod, like one of the fierce defenders of Apple's price cut, said he was going to do in this thread. I won't mention his name, but he should be ashamed of his self for even going to the store credit sign up page. He flamed everyone in this forum, for being dissatisfied with the sudden drop in price of the iPhone. Yet he chooses to accept and spend his credit, to me, that is disgusting. So all you Apple defenders, do the right thing, you did not fight for the credit, so please donate 100.00 to a worthy cause of your choosing!!!

Lastly, Mr. Jobs, I am glad to see that there are still companies that listen to their customers. Thank You, M

I think this is a good idea...if people are selling them, there must be a good way for us to donate them. I bet every one of our communities has a non-profit that would benefit from several $100 dollar credits at an apple store.

Set up a website. donateyouriphonecredit.com I'll be first in line.
