If you abstain simply because of whatever is down the road, you'd NEVER buy anything. There's ALWAYS something newer and better coming "next year".
Still, there's some validity in saying that there doesn't seem to be a great enough "jump" in technology in each successive model to warrant upgrading each year. But TWO years in between... well then, that might make things much fresher. I'm on V1, and going from a V1 to a 32GB 3Gs will seem nice, I think.
