I do not have the nike+ kit, but I will be purchasing one when the new iphone comes out. From what I understand the kit consists of two main hardware pieces. One piece is the sensor that fits in your shoe. The other piece is a dongle that connects to the ipod/iphone. I believe the sensor transmits the data to the ipod/iphone dongle (via bluetooth?) and that would require you to have the ipod/iphone near you to store the data. Hope that helps and maybe someone who has experience with nike+ can chime in.
