It is interesting because the product is no longer being produced. Why would they want the domain name still? They don't maintain the domain names of any other former products, macintosh, emac, etc.

I don't know why the tablet or slate idea wears on people. I have owned both iphones, a macbook, a macbook pro, and an imac. I am by far not a newcomer to the Apple fan club. I would by an ultra portable in a heartbeat. And I think there are a LOT of other purists out there who would do the same.

As far as cannibalization, I think you are off base. An inexpensive netbook product priced at around $600 - 800 is not taking away from people interested in a MBA, MB or MBP. It is an entry point for those who aren't sure if they want to dive in feet first and throw down $1500 to get in the game. And I think if Apple can grab first time users with a product like the one that is flying around the internet rumor mills, then the sales of their other products will grow.

How many people first bought an ipod or iphone or ipod touch, and then decided than an iMac or Macbook would be a good purchase to make? I am fairly certain that an entry level product like this will be what is needed to push those that are unsure over the edge.

I also think that this ultraportable would be a great companion for a solid desktop iMac, MBP, or MB. You don't always want to grab the laptop, and you can't just grab the desktop. Talk about mobile connectivity options...this would definitely give some options that are currently not filled in the apple product line.
