Does the remote work for other MP3 players and phone? And does the mic work for other phones other then the iPhone?

Sad story, but I was forced to switch to Verizon against my will, losing my iPhone in the process. So now, I'm getting the LG Dare (taboo to say it here I know lol) and I was wondering if the mic on the apple earphones would work with the LG Dare.

I'm predicting that the remote WON'T work but the mic will? Please clarify this for me. I don't want to get another pair of earphones for the mic if my current ones work.

PS: I'm pretty sure Apple claims that their earphones will ONLY work with apple products but companies always do this so don't give me a link that says "ONLY WORK WITH APPLE PRODUCTS" etc. etc.
