i think they make the price pretty steep in the beginning on purpose... For one when i see a 9.99 app i'm like OMG im not paying 10 bucks for some little game on my phone... then they drop the price to 5 bucks and im like awesome!!! but then if you think about it 5 bucks for a game on a phone is still a bit much but you think it's a great price since it dropped from 10 bucks... This is a very strategic way of selling their app... they get the suckers that pay 10 bucks and then they rake in more profit when they put their app on "sale"

Not sure, I just feel that major developers haven't yet embraced the fact that the iTunes App Store revolves around "ringtone" apps (99 cents). To purposefully sell an application for 10 bucks, knowing that you won't make any serious profit until you lower the price might seem a little inefficient.
