well of course... unless you want the IT guys on your case... You would need to check with them anyway for the proper settings... just because a server is listening and responding for imap requests doesn't mean it will authenticate you... or even if your quota is enough to store messages on the server.

that said, if you use more than one computer or need to access your e-mail anywhere, it's hard not to use imap. it's certainly made my life easier.
