I agree that the lack of copy/paste is nuts as is the inability to send a text message to more than one person at a time. I tried the
phonenumber@txt.att.net thing in email and it didn't work. (I included the 1, maybe that's why.) [Ok, dropping the 1 worked. But replies come in as emails and not sms. Oh well.]

phonenumber@txt.att.net. I've tried this and it works. It is a pain trying to figure out which mobile service provider all of your contacts have and adding a e-mail to each contact. Also I don't really know what is the maximum number of people you can send a message to through the mail app. However, this is a viable (albeit painful) workaround until they fix this. And there is also the benefit of not having to pay for each individual text message.
