Facebook’s Poke Feature Now A Full Fledged App

Facebook today extracted the ‘Poke’ feature and created an entirely new app based off of it. Poke takes the feature which has been part of Facebook since 2004 and gives it top billing in the form of a dedicated app. With Poke, you can send a message, photo or video to your Facebook friends. The company claims it’s a new “lightweight way”. Messages sent using Poke can have expiration times added of 1, 3, 5 or 10 seconds. Seems like an incredibly short poke if you ask me. When time runs out, the message disappears.

To view an incoming message, you have to press and hold the message until it expires.

Not that this sort of app would do anything to increase bad behavior among those using it, but Facebook has included a option to report content that might cause you to feel “uncomfortable”. Sounds great!

Poke is available now in the App Store.
