EA Backpedals On Rock Band Collapse

Yesterday, we heard word of an alert popping up on the iOS Rock Band game, warning that it would soon cease to function. Now, intense media pressure has focused on EA, and the company has backtracked on this statement. A new notification was sent out to devices, and EA has stated:

“Rock Band for iOS will remain live – the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error. We apologize for the confusion this caused. We’re working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible.”

Which to me sounds like backpedalling, especially as they had previously stated in an FAQ that they were ”suspending support of ROCK BAND after May 31 and focusing resources on other EA titles.”

We still don’t know why this was going to happen, but one theory is that it has something to do with EA’s online service shutdowns, which this month will see Rock Band and Spore for iOS losing online services.
