According to a report in DigiTimes, those involved in the supply chain are delivering parts and components for a next generation iPad, which will be available in 3-4 months. At the same time, OEM contractors are seeing a reduction in iPad 2 orders. They expect a decline from 14-15 million during Q4 to 4-5 million during Q1 of 2012.
Production of the new iPad are said to begin in January and will ramp up in February.
Production of the new iPads is expected to reach 9.5-9.8 million units in the first quarter of 2012, estimated sources in the supply chain. Sales of iPad products totaled 25.06 million in the first three quarters of 2011 and are likely to reach 40 million units for all of 2011, the sources estimated.
DigiTimes information always digests better with a grain or two of salt, but this certainly sounds plausible. The yearly cycle of the iPad would put the iPad 3 releasing sometime in March, which sounds about right.
