Developer Provides Update On iOS 5.1.x Untethered Jailbreak

It’s been quite a while since we saw developers find exploits shortly after the release of the new iPad. This led many to believe that perhaps a release of the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak would be imminent. This wasn’t the case, despite the developers finding a number of potential exploits. Should they expose the exploits now or hold them for iOS 6? When polled, the results were a unimanous 64% in favor of the release. The developers have since been working on a public release and have released an FAQ to provide more insight as to where they with this latest jailbreak.

  • The poll about releasing now or waiting for 6.0 ended with a 64% / 33% to release ASAP. Where is the link ? ETA ? How much % done ? etc.As I said earlier in twitter, there’s still a lot to do to have a user friendly and well tested tool to install the jailbreak on end users devices. Expect a release in a couple of weeks.
  • Will it be compatible with my <any random iOS device> ?It will be compatible with any device running iOS 5.1.1 except iPod 3G, iPhone 3Gs and ATV3 (right now, may change in a near future, nobody knows).
  • Why is it so slow to release now that the iPad 3,1 has been demoed ?There are 16 different devices out there to work on and to test. It takes time.

There you have it. It sounds like they are progressing, but we are still a few weeks out. You can discuss the impending release in our iPhone Jailbreak forums.

Looks Like I’ll be left out this time again. I was hoping to be untethered on my 3gs for my hols in 6 weeks. But that’s not looking like it will happen.

Thanks to Apple’s ethics your device won’t even be updateable next year. Two years is all Apple give you and then you either make do with an outdated device, not supported by Apple or you shell out hundreds of £’s/$’s to get a new phone and I know which Apple want you to do.

Everyone one does it as well it’s not only Apple. You can always sell your old iPhone and purchase an updated model.
