We’re all still waiting for Google Maps to land as a standalone app on iOS 6, and so any sort of news about such an app has been jumped on with great vigor. One developer has claimed to know some inside news on his blog, and while we’re not sure of the authenticity, here are the details.
Ben Guild has put together a post with a few very blurry screenshots, and describes the alpha version of the app as being:
- It’s vector-based.
- It’s got two-finger rotation to any angle.
- It’s super fast.
- 4-inch height of the iPhone 5 is supported!
However, there’s no proof here. The shots are so blurry as to be near useless, and don’t actually prove anything. And why would Guild have access to this info?
9to5Mac thinks this screenshot would be pretty easy to fake, but the blogpost is getting covered by some pretty big sites.
At this stage, without any additional information, I’m leaning towards staying skeptical. And I’d really hope Google is beyond alpha for Google Maps by now.
