Clear debuted in the App Store to much fanfare, and it’s obvious that the app’s been an immense success. The Guardian is reporting that in the nine days since launch, the app has sold 350,000 copies, which at $0.99 a pop is not to be scoffed at — even with Apple taking 30% off the top.

The simplicity of the app is an obvious draw, and developers RealMac are now working on porting the software to other platforms. An iPad and Mac version are in the works, and they’re not discounting Android or Windows Phone either. Mac compatibility and syncing between devices will obviously be a major feature for the app, as it’s one of the few areas it’s lagging currently.

There was tremendous buzz prior to its release. They also did a great job of marketing the app, offering some blogs early access in exchange for release day reviews. It certainly worked to their advantage.
Im glad you acknowledge that. This is totally the model case for superior marketing and having a ton of great connections(some being in Apple). There is absolutely nothing special about the app, I think the 4 top rated reviews for the App clearly point that out. Its how the AppStore currently works, get it up there and it feeds itself. The recent Pokemon ripoffs that don’t even work and other counterfeits that have made it to top 5 in sales prove that…
I can name a bunch of list type apps including my own that are just as intuitive and yet more powerful and don’t rely on the couple of extra little gimmicky gestures that they snuck in that you must be taught(most are built in to all iOS lists). And things like pushing an actual check box is still easier and makes more sense than doing a swipe to check off…
I applaud them for their hype machine though!!
If the app description had "contains less functionality than Google Tasks…" many people wouldn’t have bought it. It’s a waste of an app.
