Stefan Esser, more famously known as i0n1c, the one that provided us with the 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak and posted video of his jailbroken new iPad within hours of release, has taken to twitter today to seemingly clear the air over the status of the untethered 5.1 jailbreak. Days ago, rumors started spreading around that not 1 but 3 separate untethered jailbreak solutions are in the works for 5.1. i0n1c stated today that this was misinformation and there is currently only one untethered jailbreak in the works for 5.1.
He takes the time to clarify however that there are currently more than 3 known kernel exploits that are currently being explored by himself, phoenixdev, and chpwn. As many of you know, finding a kernel exploit is one of the very first and most important steps in the jailbreak process.
Also worth noting is his following tweet “If someone is able to untether the latest device it is highly likely that he can untether all previous devices.” strongly hinting that one jailbreak solution could lead to all devices running 5.1 being jailbreak ready.
