Just two days ago, Apple launched a Chinese edition of their digital store, which lead to the iPhone 4 selling out in just 10 hours. The reason? The same as why it’s so hard to get a phone in an actual Apple store in China: scalpers. They prey on people who don’t want to wait for a device, or sit at their computer refreshing the order page, hoping theirs will go through. They have auto-refreshers set up on Apple’s store page, putting in orders constantly, which they then sell on to customers at a profit. Their activity also makes it hard for regular customers to grab one online.
“You will not have a chance to buy one. We have an auto-refresh system to place order, and we are watching it for 24 hours, can you do this?”
All this attention has lead to the device selling out in just 10 hours.
