Casio has officially released the G-Shock GB6900AA, which normally wouldn’t be too exciting, but this model can talk to your iPhone. Casio seems to be embracing the world of smartwatches, at a remarkably sane price. For $180, the G-Shock GB6900AA can show you notifications of incoming calls and emails, help you find your phone by using an alarm, synchronize time with your iPhone, and use tilt sensors to automatically reconnect to your device when needed.
Oh, and it tells the time, too.
While it might not be as fancy as some of the other smartwatches that have popped up over the last year or so, the battery life is pretty impressive sounding. It just runs on a standard watch battery, with a lifespan of approximately two years (assuming 12 hours a day of Bluetooth pairing).
However, it looks like you’ll need an iPhone 4S or better, and that Android users have been left out in the cold. And it does require pairing with a special app.
While G-Shock watches may not be up my particular style alley, I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who dig it.
