iSkin revo for Apple iPhone
Compatibility iPhone

The iSkin revo features a premium silicone material with an embedded anti-microbial agent (Microban) that protects the product by inhibiting the growth of microbes. Research studies have shown that the average mobile phone may contain substantial amounts of bacteria.

The revo covers and protects all vulnerable surfaces, ports and controls on the iPhone without affecting its usability or functionality. It is styled to complement the iPhone without additional bulk, and features a duotone design with sophisticated color accents complimenting its main body color.

Adds all the necessary protection / utility the iphone requires. Ditch the screen protector and you're in business. This is a quality product.

I love this case. It fits very snug. I like the removable plastic guard, it gives me peace of mind. I didn't like the screen protector. I figured I spent so much money on the phone I might as well get the full functionality of the great screen that apple has made. A little pricey, but worth every penny. I work as a chef in a hot kitchen and i feel confident with this case in my pocket. Dust was an issue the first few days, but not anymore.

I purchased the iSkin Revo for iPhone after looking at as many cases as I could. I liked the special features of the case, and it looked really spiffy in the pictures on the iSkin site.

Unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. When it arrived, I removed everything from the packaging. The first thing I noticed was that the plastic visor was all sticky from the tape they used to keep it in the package. No problem, I washed it off using some GooGone. Then I noticed an uneven, slightly jagged crescent on the bottom of the visor. It looked like they had snapped it off its mold and damaged it.

I put the iSkin on, and while it fit fine, the top colored portion was visibly uneven. I tried pulling and rearranging the skin, but the top portion was always a little off kilter, making the overall look of the skin kind of sloppy.

The visor provides really great protection for the screen, but it's a royal pain to use. If you have it on, you can't access the touch features of the phone until you remove it. Since it's not attached to the skin, you either have to slap it on the back of the phone or stick it somewhere while you answer the phone or do whatever you need to do. This turns out to be really inconvenient. Plus the visor seems to get looser the more you use it.

The dock plug is another great piece of protection, but it, too, is inconvenient. It's a teeny piece of black rubber that is incredibly easy to misplace (believe me, I spent a half hour looking for it when I was repackaging the iSkin to send it back).

As for aesthetics, the case looks better, in my opinion, in the pictures than it does in real life. The colored portion (in my case Rah--light blue) looks kind of cheap on a $600 phone. The black rubber, while nicely textured and easy to hold, doesn't match the cool, crisp design of the iPhone. The plastic visor is as fingerprint prone as the iPhone itself, so you wind up with two things you need to wipe clean. Plus, being a female, I prefer something that looks less rugged.

I wanted to like this case, but, in the end, I decided it just wasn't for me. Maybe if iSkin tweaked some things, the case would be worth the $40 you pay for it.

Having used the iSee by Contour Design, I decided to give a silicon case a try. I opted to go for one of the most expensive and most 'gimmicked' cases out there, the iSkin Revo.

Their own site lists 5 special features this case integrates:

  • 360 Degrees of Protection

  • Anti-Microbial

  • Privacy Guard

  • Protective Visor

  • Sure Grip Texturing

Interestingly enough, when I received the iSkin, the box listed a 6th individual feature which isn't individually listed on the site:

  • Anti-Dust Coated

The site does list this feature as part of the Sure Grip texturing.

The reason I say "gimmicked" is because many of the listed features are just that. For instance, even though cell phones do pick up a lot of bacteria, so do so many of the other things we use on a daily basis. Unless you're like Monk, this feature isn't that important.

The privacy guard seems ironic to me, as I want everybody to be able to clearly see my use of my iPhone. A bit of a show off maybe, but I'll take any attention I can get...

I can say that the Anti-Dust coating is a little hard to swallow. As with so many of the silicon cases I've owned, it takes no time for my iPhone to end up with artifact and dust build-up. I can only guess this is why they downplayed the anti-dust coating on the site.

The price for the case is very steep, especially considering that silicon cases are generally known for being relatively in-expensive. But it does seem to do the job of protecting, and it is comfortable to hold.

I've still not decided weather or not to use the included protective visor. While it does provide major protection for the screen, it does get in the way when I'm trying to answer my phone while carrying a couple things.

One thing I found surprising about the case is it actually has a piece of transparent plastic recessed inside the case over the camera opening. I found this out the hard way because I saw some dust on what I thought was the camera screen, so I kept removing the case to try to wipe it clean. By the time I figured out what was happening, I had physically popped the camera covering out of the case. It took me several tries to get it back in, but I never did get it cleaned...

And one thing that did disappoint me was the fact that it came in a selection of colors, but there was no green... :(

All in all I am sticking with it. I've removed the protective screen (after trying to go with it for a few days), and have decided to also ditch the port covering (which fits into the docking port to protect it) as its only a matter of time before I loose the thing anyway.
