Can A Case Transform An iPod Touch Into An iPhone?

A Chinese company called Yosian is planning on making a device for the iPod Touch, which would allow it to function as a cellphone. Dubbed the Apple Peel 520, it’s powered by an Infineon baseband chip, as well as an extra battery, extending usage time up to 4.5 hours of talking, or 120 hours of standby.

With the chip plugged in, you’ll be able to make calls and send text messages, though there’s no word on GPS or data.

It’s currently estimated to cost between $45 and $75 .

Yeah, this is all kinds of sketch, and probably won’t work very well at all, but at the same time, it’s pretty freaking cool! It’s a case that turns your iPod into a phone!

This is outstanding. I think a lot of people will do this. An iPhone with loads of memory!!!!

  2. I would love this. I have two kids that have touches. They are almost old enough to have cell phones. This would be great if they could use there Touches to call and text with out having to pay for a data plan.

  3. I’ve used skype on the touch, coupled with the iPhone microphone head phones to allow my son to make call for the past couple of years from his iPod touch. It’s much cheaper than this case & you’ll have more control over who the kid can call.

That’s Awesome! In theory they could make it so that Any sim could be put into that slot including…. Verizon!! That would be funny, the first iDevice to be on Verizon would be an iPod touch.

They would have to make apps for calls and messages though, and I don’t think Apple would be too happy letting apps in the App store that would make it possible for the user not buy to buy an iPhone. Look what they did to Google Mobile

One more thing. Is there a speaker and mic in the case as well? There would have to be. The iPod touch doesn’t have a mic, and I woulnt want to use the built in speaker or the headphones
