Whenever the discussion of an Apple branded television set gets bandied about, people always scratch their head over the name. The AppleTV already exists, but is something very different, so the term iTV tends to get used as a stand-in. Now the folks at ITV, the British broadcaster behind such shows as Downton Abbey, have preemptively issued a warning that they don’t want Apple to use that same name.
Apparently when ITV’s head came in in 2010, he received assurances from Apple that the company didn’t want to use the name iTV, but with all the rumors swirling about in the last few months, the naming specter has raised its head again.
Keep in mind that Apple has a history of appropriating other company’s names for their products. Cisco owned the original IOS, as well as iPhone, and Fujitsu made a product called iPAD.
Frankly, I don’t even know if I believe that Apple is making a television set.
