Google To FCC: We Only Restrict Fewer Than 100 Numbers
The AT&T/Google/FCC confusion continues, and Google have released their official response to the FCC investigation. For those of you who aren’t keeping track: Google made an iPhone app for their free calling service: Voice, which got declined by Apple. Google called foul, and Apple blamed AT&T. AT&T denied this charge, and instead contacting the FCC, saying that Google Voice breaks Net Neutrality because they don’t cover certain very expensive rural numbers. This is the same AT&T which is staunchly anti-Net Neutrality the rest of the time. Google has now issued a formal response to the FCC, saying they only restrict calls to fewer than 100 numbers, all of which they believe are involved in shady goings on.
If Google Voice should even be subject to the FCC is still up to debate, as they’re not technically a service provider, but rather let you make phonecalls over an internet connection, like Skype does.
