Facebook iPhone Developer Quits Due to Apple’s Policies
Have you heard of this app that’s available for your iPhone called Facebook. We hear it’s pretty popular and now comes word that the developer of said app is quitting the project due to Apple’s policies. TechCrunch reached out to Joe Hewitt to see why he’s leaving the project.
My decision to stop iPhone development has had everything to do with Apple’s policies. I respect their right to manage their platform however they want, however I am philosophically opposed to the existence of their review process. I am very concerned that they are setting a horrible precedent for other software platforms, and soon gatekeepers will start infesting the lives of every software developer.
The web is still unrestricted and free, and so I am returning to my roots as a web developer. In the long term, I would like to be able to say that I helped to make the web the best mobile platform available, rather than being part of the transition to a world where every developer must go through a middleman to get their software in the hands of users.”
Hewitt is not leaving Facebook and another developer is taking over the project. It’s till unclear how that will affect arguably the most popular social networking app available on the iPhone.

Great…. thanks for ruining everything Apple.
It was great when Apple came out with the iPhone, because they took the first step that Windows Mobile 5 or 6 wouldn’t do and that was make a Phone that people wanted. Now, we have every Phone maker trying to copy it. Apple and AT&T are going to create their own failure with all these restrictions. It’s just sad that I have to go the unlocked route to obtain the Apps that I want and yes I do pay for them. I’m not looking to steal, but the freedom to choose what I want on my iPhone.
Net Neutrality hopefully will keep the Freedom of the Internet alive.
