For all the arguing that Apple’s big announcement of The Beatles on iTunes wasn’t that important of an event, it seems to have been an incredibly successful one. According to report by Reuters, in the week since the announcement, more than two million individual songs and 450,000 albums have been sold by the band over iTunes.
“Abbey Road” sold the strongest, coming it at number six for the week, and “The Beatles Box Set” was number 10. “Here Comes The Sun” was the best selling album, but it didn’t break the top 10 charts.
As much as this was an underwhelming announcement from a gadget perspective — and I still want a Beatles themed iPod — you can’t ignore that Beatles fans are snapping up the MP3s.
