A lot of people were suitably riled by yesterday’s report that AT&T may be charging to use FaceTime over 3G , and the company is famously happy to slap extra fees on any and everything. Luckily, it looks like AT&T isn’t set in stone on the FaceTime issue, even though the mechanism for it to charge is obviously there.
As reported by TechCrunch, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson briefly commented, saying “I’ve heard the same rumor,” but “it’s too early to talk about pricing.”
With any luck, AT&T will see the bad press this has caused, and back off on the issue — but I wouldn’t count on it. The company has proved itself more than willing to add extra fees wherever and whenever it can.
