AT&T International Plans Now Suck Incrementally Less

If you’ve ever travelled internationally, you’ve no doubt hit against the specter of international voice and data plans — which are horrifically overpriced. If you want to keep your phone number, or have a locked phone, you’re stuck using your carrier’s obscenely expensive plans for data and voice. AT&T has just marginally improved its international voice plans — but they’re still far too expensive.

According to the new plan, travelers to:

  • Canada and Mexico can pay $30, $60 or $120 for 80, 200, or 500 minutes
  • In Europe, $30, $60 or $120 will get you 30, 80, or 200 minutes
  • And the rest of the world, it’s a 15, 40, 100 minute breakdown at the same price. That’s right, 15 minutes of talk time for $30.

For text messaging, there’s also $10/$30/$60 for 50/20/600 texts.

Yeah, that’s still way too much freaking money. Either get your phone unlocked, or buy a cheap international one, and just grab a SIM card when you get there. And save yourself a boatload of money.
