Last Friday, Android Central unearthed a bit of news from AT&T that they were going to up the price for early upgrades of their smartphones, especially the iPhone. If you want a new phone but haven’t been on your current one for two years, you’ll pay $50 above market price in order to get it, that’s $449 for a 16GB iPhone 4, and $549 for a 32GB model. If you want to buy it on one year contract instead of two, that’ll be $150 over the standard price, too.

BGR has confirmed that this will happen for all of their smartphones — regardless of OS.

For the launch of the iPhone 4, AT&T significantly shortened the period before which people were eligible for an upgrade, allowing more users to get in on the new unit.

  1. Yup, next step in the ATT saga. Since they own TMobile now, where you gonna turn for competition?
