With over 10,000 applications in the App Store, it's getting harder and harder for developers to get their app noticed. Clearly, the name of the game is to get your application among the Top Paid Apps list. Making the list is not enough and many are looking for new ways to get you to their application. Developers are now using their icons to promote discounts or accomplishments. One fifth of the Top Paid apps now contain promotional language such "On Sale" or "Game of the Year".
According to a report over at MacRumors, Apple is revisiting their approval policy and now allowing "limited utility" applications. The once bannished app "Pull My Finger" is back and this time even Santa getting in on the act. Apple reportedly contacted Sam Magdalein of Air-O-Matic to let him know of the approval and the new stance on App Store approvals.
Last week, Google announced they would be incorporating voice recognition into their search app for the iPhone. While there was speculation yesterday that the update might be experiencing trouble with the approval process, that all seems to be nothing but speculation. There is an update to the Google Mobile App in the App Store (App Store link) that provides search via voice recognition.
Apple has rejected the latest version of CastCatcher, a streaming radio app that is currently available in the iPhone App Store. Version 1.3 of CastCatcher was not so lucky. The app was rejected by Apple who provided the following reason:
Reports of a new push to increase the amount of app reviews with the release of iPhone Software update 2.2. According to iPhoneHellas.gr (via MR), the latest firmware will encourage users to rate an app before deleting from iTunes. The rating of course will then get sent back to iTunes and the app rating would be adjusted accordingly.
