Just a few months ago, not a week would go by without controversy over an application that was denied entry into the App Store. Back in September, we wrote about Podcaster getting rejected for what was deemed "duplicate functionality". New year, new policy? Just a few weeks ago, Apple approved alternate browsers for the iPhone. And that's not duplicate functionality how?

A new application, VUDU Movie Catalog (Free | App Store link) is now available in the App Store and proves to be a perfect companion for Vudu owners. The VUDU Movie Catalog app allows you to browse and search their entire catalog. With a Vudu account, you can purchase or rent movies directly from your iPhone or iPod touch. Movies will be downloaded to your Vudu box automatically. This is very convenient if you prefer Vudu's HDX movies, which typically take 2 hours to download.

UStream's new application Viewing Application allows iPhone users to stream live and pre-recorded video content. UStream allows for interactive chat, allowing users to send chat messages via the iPhone. The only caveat, and it's a big one, is that UStream requires a WiFi connection. This certainly does not bode well for the upcoming SlingPlayer for iPhone, with WiFi only severely limiting the usefullness of these applications

A handful of web browsers are now available in the App Store. While none of them offer the full feature set that Safari on the iPhone already does, each offers something different to streamline or focus the browsing experience. For example, QuickSurf specifically avoids downloading images on web pages to speed up browsing and/or decrease the amount of data used, and WebMate is a tabbed browser that queues up clicked links so you can view them later without leaving the current web page.
