NiceMac, the developers behind the SiriusXM player StarPlayr, have decided to discontinue the StarPlayr project. It's still unclear as to whether this move was prompted by the companies failure to get approval into the App Store or perhaps an official app is coming from SiriusXM? Either way, development has been halted on desktop versions of the application as well as mobile versions as per an official statement from NiceMac.

A new application called gCalWall (app store link) is a helpful utility application for iPhone owners who use Google Calendar to manage their life. Essentially, the application allows you to easily create custom iPhone wallpapers based upon the next five events in your Google Calendar. gCalWall still allows you to select your favorite wallpaper, but simply overlays the events. You can also modify the color of the text.

When Apple created the App Store, it changed the entire mobile software distribution eco-system. With previous smartphones, third-party software distributors allowed a multitude of stores selling mobile software, be it for Windows Mobile, Palm OS or BlackBerry. If you are an iPhone developer with aspirations to get paid for your applications, the only real choice is the App Store. That could all change. Jay Freeman, creater of the Cydia, looking to create a centralized payment system for his upcoming Cydia-baed App Store. Apps available through Cydia requires a jailbroken iPhone, something Apple frowns upon.
Cydia allows users to download apps for free. Up until now, developers looking to charge for their apps would be responsible for setting up a payment mechanism. The creator of Cydia is looking to create a centralized payment system and put a revenue share system in place for developers. This would be in direct competition with Apple's App Store and will most likely result in some form of legal action. Will the "Anti-App Store" App Store ever see the light of day? If offered a better rev share, will some developers opt for the App Store for Cydia to distribute their apps? Will applications like Sling Player Mobile and StarPlyr SiriusXM Player surface in Cydia?
